Called to be His Holy PeopleOne of the great joys of our lives has been the relationship the Lord has given us with the church in Venezuela. This relationship grew out of a tragedy, but God has turned our pain into joy. The highlights of our 50 years of ministry have been the more than 20 years that we have lived, loved and served with the people of God in Venezuela. These devotionals in Romans are a product of that shared life. I pray that they will be helpful to you as well.
Devotional Guide tothe Gospel of JohnJohn has written this gospel account from the perspective of the evangelist. His intention in recounting the life and ministry of Jesus is to produce belief and life. The writer of John's Gospel was known as "John the Evangelist". It is to the great evangelists who impacted my life that I dedicate this book. The first evangelist I met was my mother, Leila Youngblood Lathem. She led me to Jesus one Sunday afternoon in December 1960. The first pastor I met and the most influential in my life was Reverend John Ozley, who became my pastor when I was just 7 years old. As I write this, Brother John is still my pastor even though he is now over 90 years old. His ministry was always productive in evangelism. There are many contemporaries who have spent their lives reaching the lost with the Gospel. I give thanks for them. For those sons and daughters in the faith in Venezuela who serve to bring thousands to faith in Christ, I am very thankful. This book is dedicated to all of them and to those who will discover their call to evangelism and reach the nations with the Good News of Jesus.
"In that far away land, night never came and day never broke. It was the place where tears did not fall and worries did not exist..." Nely CabAs I enter my 70th year on this planet, I am drawn to memories of another time and place. It was in many ways so very different from today.Lathemtown was my home. Our family had migrated from South Carolina to Cherokee County, Georgia in the 1830's. They were primarily farmers. Then a small gold mine changed things. New houses, a General Store, a Cotton Gin, a Mule Trading Barn, a Methodist Church and more were built from the proceeds of that little mine. These were the central structures of my childhood (...)My life has been blessed. I hope you enjoy these stories of my childhood and youth. Many of my generation will see themselves in these vignettes. Others will become acquainted with an alien and ancient world.Laugh with me, or at me. I don't care which. But please laugh. The Lord knows we have done enough crying. Reflect on your journey. Maybe you can share your stories.
Lessons in LeadershipDevotions in NehemiahThe Bishop of the Methodist Church of Venezuela requested I write this daily devotional for his pastors and leaders focusing primarily on the leadership values and lessons revealed in the Book of Nehemiah. It was my honor to do so.I rejoiced as I saw these devotions shared daily by the Bishop in his private message group with his pastors and leaders and saw their response each day. It was also rewarding to see these devotions shared on FaceBook by the Seminario Wesleyano de Venezuela and several pastors in Venezuela.I shared them in English each day on FaceBook and was encouraged by the many kind comments of some faithful readers.I believe there are some critical lessons for effective Kingdom leadership revealed in this book.I pray these lessons will be employed wherever Christian leaders desire to have significant Kingdom impact.May the Lord bless you as you live into the word of God for the next 68 days.
This is a devotional guide to the reading of the Book of Acts. You will read one chapter a day in Acts of the Apostles. Then you will read a short devotion based on that chapter. We trust you will be empowered to be witnesses as were the early Apostles.
