The astonishing true story of Glasgow gangland confidant James McIntyre, aka Jimmy Two Guns James 'Jimmy Two Guns' McIntyre was Glasgow's go-to gangland lawyer and consigliere to one of Scotland's foremost crime families. His maverick approach to the law and a client list that included some of the most feared gangland figures of the time - including the McGoverns and Paul Ferris - ensured that he was always in demand but under the constant scrutiny of the authorities. Now Jimmy Two Guns recounts the cases he handled, the strokes he pulled, plus his arrests, a high-speed car chase with the drug squad, his time in 'the cooler' for allegedly attempting to murder a cop and much more. He tells how he bounced back after being the target of a near-fatal underworld hit, before being arrested by an armed response unit for possession of two pistols, and reveals with wit and a sharp pen what it's really like being a lawyer for the underdog. Whatever you thought you knew about crime and justice, think again - because for Jimmy Two Guns, the truth has always been stranger than fiction. 'Crooked judges, bent cops and hypocrites in high places - the most truthful legal memoir you'll ever read. Superb.'Matthew Hall, bestselling novelist and BAFTA-winning screenwriter of Keeping Faith 'James McIntyre was a legal barracuda swimming both sides of the line; this memoir is his modus operandi.'G.F. Growing up in the 80's was a great time for any kid. Everyone practiced dancing to Thriller on MTV. Our hearts were warmed by the alien who visited. Girls wore bracelets and rocked the Madonna lace gloves. Being a kid meant our parents kicked us out of the house and we had to be home by streetlights. Neighbors talked to each other, and moms ruled the block. The Ultimate 80's Kid is a memoir of growing up through the years of being a young innocent kid, a rebellious teenager and a reflective adult. One day you're playing hide and go seek with your friends and the next day your parents get divorced and you move to the middle of nowhere surrounded by cows and pigs. Being the youngest of four children was difficult enough but dealing with parents getting divorced, leaving all your friends and having to learn a whole new world during a young boy's life can have an impact many years later. Experiencing the innocence of a first kiss and girlfriend, to the years of rebellion by stealing your grandma's car and going to juvenile hall, realizing that you were on a destructive path in life and ultimately coming to admire, love and respect the person who cared most for you...your mom.

Lady Lay begins Lessons From The Stressors by recounting her upbringing in Washington, DC in the early 90s. From an early age, she exhibited subtle signs of anxiety and depression that would follow her into adulthood. She concealed this inner turmoil under the guise of people pleasing, shrinking, and collecting accolades. However, when her anxious tendencies and depressive episodes were intensified through trauma, she struggled to keep her condition concealed behind the facade of kindness and academic success. As she matured, her conditions intensified. Gradually, Lady learned coping strategies to better manage her physical, emotional, and mental states. Through perseverance and self-care, she learned tools to alleviate her suffering just enough to start building herself back up. Those tools would ultimately assist with anticipating triggers, redirecting obsessive thoughts, and nurturing her overall mental health. In her memoir, Lessons from the Stressors, Lady traces her journey from childhood into adulthood as she learns to understand, accept, and overcome the challenges of anxious and depressive episodes. The lessons from those stressors are shared in hopes that readers find their own light when dealing with darkness.
What are the limits of one's duty as a healthcare provider to render care during a peacetime pandemic when that care is often life-saving for the patient yet concurrently life-threatening to the provider? Does it matter if the provider is still in training? How was the COVID-19 pandemic informed by past pandemics, for better or for worse? Voices from the Front Lines: The Pandemic and the Humanities is a time capsule: it seeks to illuminate the behind-the-scenes emotions, reflections, and actions of healthcare workers and medical humanities experts during the tumultuous first few years of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US. In this collection, Katherine Ratzan Peeler and Richard M. Ratzan bring together 45 voices in essays, poetry, and photographs from frontline healthcare workers, medical educators, healthcare administrators, journalists, anthropologists, historians, ethicists, and more. The contributors wrestle with questions of triage, conflicting patient and family needs, personal mental and physical health struggles, and bioethical and societal questions about how to live, and assist others, in a world-altering pandemic.
Upon graduation from Kewanee High School in May 1960, I was a very sheltered young girl from a small town. I filled my three white, hard-sided Samsonite pieces of luggage with dreams and headed off to Iowa City to begin my nursing career. The Sixties Decade would be a turbulent ride.Sometime in 2017 I wrote the following email to my five children: "It's a World gone mad you say? I will tell you that I have seen it all before. Watts, Chicago 7, Kent State shootings, and the Black Panthers breaking into surgery while dad took bullets out of their guy. They demanded he hand them over as he pulled from the wound. Martin Luther King's assassination was followed by Bobby Kennedy's as we sat on the edge of our chairs listening to the daily Vietnam body count...."Their history is not my history. Mine began at the end of the 19th Century with the arrival of my seven-year-old grandfather on a ship from England. Theirs began at the time when the United States went to war in Vietnam and protests began. Civil Rights. Women's Rights. Political Upheaval. This memoir is but a small window of reflections over several decades. It is not about politics or protests. It is about the life of a small-town girl growing up very fast.
A Push in the Wrong Direction was a very hard book to write. It's about the struggles in the first half of my life. If I can, I'll finish my second book about the second half of my life and share that also. Enjoy this book please.
