"Cave Camp" is the story of a young boy who attends a Christian camp owned by his ornery great uncle whom he meets for the first time. The church camp is run that week by the Women's Christian Temperance Union whose focus is on the evils of drinking alcohol and smoking. The main feature of this camp is Porter's Cave, a magnificent and dangerous natural wonder in the heart of Indiana. The boy also stays with his great aunt and great uncle and experiences interesting contradictions from what he is being taught at the camp and what he learns from his great uncle. After church camp is over, the boy camps with a young uncle and a cousin at the property where he experiences the adventures of exploring the cave, a stone quarry, swimming in a natural pool, and swinging on vines and the anguish of a terrible case of poison ivy. There is fun, adventure and suffering during his time there which he never forgets. Years later, when the boy is a middle aged man, he tries to go back and relive his experiences with his own son. There is elation and disappointment in this memorable story as the reader is led back to a distant time and place for a one of a kind experience.

  • - A Bridge Between God and Man
    av Richard A Money
    241 - 243

The Journey of Faith is a tale of his spiritual and physical journey and events that he encountered as a renegade priest with some viewpoints and observations of religion and history. Hopefully, the reader will gain some insight into the world of spirituality for the years to come and will be motivated to have a closer connection to God and not to religion as such. There are many questions asked but the answers are up to the reader. Richard Money doesn't expect Journey of Faith to be a record-breaking novel. In fact, the only reason it is being written is because so many people have told Richard over the years that he has a book in him. When is he going to get it out? Well, here it comes, for better or for worse. Journey of Faith is comprised of many incidents in his life that he believes may show not what he has done, but what he has become with the Grace of God. If you are looking for a religious experience, we don't think you will find it here, although you may. We are not making any promises. Journey of Faith will stimulate the mind to see the real messages of Jesus. What makes this book unique is the ingredients of life, and the events of a married priest after being married, and the training of priests of sixty years ago. If you are seeking the meaning of life and the working of the Holy Spirit this book will truly bring light into your life. All people seeking the Holy Spirit in their lives this is for you. Not only the religious but those on the fence, as it were who may doubt the workings of God in their lives. This book is to be a bridge between God and Man, and to see the manifestations of God in our lives. This is our life in the Journey of Faith.

The Birthplace of Jesus Is in Palestine is a narrative of a Christian family in Bethlehem in the West Bank. Based on diary entries and interviews from 2000 to 2023, the Dutch author--an anthropologist and peace activist--chronicles the spontaneous reactions of his Palestinian children and wife navigating the challenges posed by curfews and checkpoints. Problems of Palestinian school life are shown from the perspective of teachers and students. Against the background of Israeli occupation and settlement building, the intricacies of Palestinian culture in its daily rhythms and domestic spaces come to life. Throughout the pages, the key Palestinian concept of sumud, or steadfastness, is explored. The memoir details acts of creative nonviolent resistance, individual protests, affirmations of cultural identity, and inspiring examples of Muslim-Christian community. The book also reveals unexpected connections between Palestinian culture in the Bethlehem area and broader Christian values and traditions. An afterword reflects upon implications of Israel's war in Gaza.

  • av M Ralph Browning
    536,-

Inspired by Roger Tory Peterson and James Fisher's book Wild America, recent high school graduate M. Ralph Browning embarked on a tightly budgeted, year-long trip in the US looking for birds. The year was 1962. His 1955 VW Beetle broke after nine months, which forced a premature end to the journey. In 2005, after matters of military duty, college, a family, and a career in birds at Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, the author resumed the interrupted trip. This time, he was with the girl he'd left behind in 1962, and they birded Texas, the Southwest, and California. The author chronicles the trip with observations on birds while touching on history, geology, and conservation. The cost of keeping alive includes periodic notes on the price of gasoline (about $0.33/gallon in 1962) and food. The author had earlier written to numerous birders for information about birding particular locations, and many of those individuals across the country showed him birds and invited him into their homes for a gratefully appreciated warm bed and home cooking. The 2005 leg of the journey was assisted by bird finding guides and the help of the legendary Jon Dunn and numerous motels.

  • - From Dream to Reality
    av Sarkis Antikajian
    212,-

From award-winning, nationally acclaimed painter Sarkis Antikajian, an inspiring memoir about how our secret dreams shape us and the tenacity it takes to become who we were always meant to be. In the enchanting pages of An Artist's Odyssey, Sarkis Antikajian unveils a profoundly moving narrative that transcends time, weaving a tale of secret dreams, untamed yearning, and the unwavering courage to pursue one's true passion. From the sun-drenched streets of Amman, Jordan, to the quiet corners of Oregon, this memoir paints a portrait of Sarkis's journey-a journey shaped by familial expectations, the pursuit of a pharmacy degree in the United States, and the quiet desperation of a hidden artistic calling. From the moment Sarkis discovered a book on Impressionists at a local library during his boyhood, the dream of wielding a paintbrush became a beacon of hope. Faced with the responsibility of providing for his family, he concealed his artistic aspirations while navigating a career in pharmacy. However, the restless artist within him persisted, and as life unfolded-with degrees earned, emigration, marriage, and pharmacy jobs-Sarkis remained steadfast in his secret pursuit. The turning point came when he intentionally sought a community that cherished art and made Oregon his home. In the embrace of this supportive environment, Sarkis embarked on a slow but determined journey toward artistic proficiency and eventual mastery. Through setbacks, debts, and an array of imaginative business ventures, he tenaciously dedicated himself to transforming passion into paintings that now grace galleries and art collections worldwide. Humble and honest, Sarkis's evocative and compelling memoir reminds us that the pursuit of one's true calling is a timeless endeavor. An Artist's Odyssey is more than a memoir; it is a heartwarming masterpiece where every word is a brushstroke, every page a canvas-a cherished friend beckoning us to revisit, breathe life into our dreams, and celebrate the timeless truth that it's never too late to become who we were meant to be.

  • av Yenisley Brito León
    209

This book is one of the most enriching books I have read in my long life, it is an encyclopedia of aesthetic and philosophical knowledge that undoubtedly situates it in a prominent place among the epistles books. The letters are the fruit of an exceptional friendship between four friends. The poet, Yenisley Brito León, writes from present time to two friends from the past, among them Lynn, the beloved muse, who becomes a light, and a redeemer of longings. In these letters there is a poetic and reflective language where the human soul, exposed in the most beautiful way imagined, transcends boundaries, and where pain ceases to be pain to become unconditional love, thus showing the beauty and wisdom that is achieved in that act. This is how the author expresses it in several passages, This test has united us to be walking sticks for one another, a refuge in storms; and it will continue to be so up to the end of all of us and of our time on earth. As long as one of us breathes, he will be in his position protecting and supporting the other. Even in the distance we will never be alone. If not in body, we will be in soul. It is my truth, although it may seem unusual. For the composition of her book, Yenisley Brito León has chosen a special form of writing, the epistle. This is a type of written communication, basically between two persons, which can revolve around a particular reason or deal with various issues that concern both the sender and the addressee. In general, since both, one and the other, are people who share an approximate degree of confidence and education, everyday language is used without further stylistic elaboration. Logically, this depends on the education of the people and also on the greater or lesser seriousness of the subject being addressed. A letter that seeks to establish a certain business deal would not be the same as another where aspects of people's common life are updated, or another in which somebody tries to establish a loving bond with someone else. Of course, there are epistles that an individual writes for a group of people, that is, a writing that an intellectual, leader or religious figure makes to communicate a matter of interest to a community. In each case it will be the receiver, in the first place, and the subject what mark the way in which the epistle is to be written. The fact of choosing this literary form is a challenge in itself, if one takes into account the number of epistles already published by famous authors, from Saint Paul, Petrarch or Montesquieu, to Benito Pérez Galdós or Franz Kafka. This leaves little edge for the author to be creative. Nevertheless, by dint of being sincere and undertaking her task with a high poetic tension, the author achieves a book not only beautifully written, but also one that encourages personal reflection due to the topics it touches on and its peculiar approach to them.

"Let's talk plainly. Your child is fat and you would like to help your child lose weight." - Camp Stanley founder Gussie Mason. A teenaged Moira Dann was blindsided by her parents' suggestion that instead of a regular vacation with her family, she spend part of her summer at a weight-loss camp for girls in the Catskills. They laid out a colourful brochure. She protested, but ultimately attended the famous Camp Stanley, featured in the award-winning documentary, A Matter of Fat. Fat Camp Summer is an amusing, poignant, and vulnerable memoir of the author's experience of a forced makeover and her often fraught relationship with the parents who insisted on it. Dann tackles issues common to overweight children, including bullying, peer pressure, parental judgement, food obsession and eating disorders, body-image issues, the torment of clothes shopping, and many more. The book is also a journalistic investigation into the research and mythologies surrounding chronic obesity, one of the most tenacious, emotionally difficult, and still misunderstood health issues of our time, affecting almost 20 percent of American children today.

This book "Living Out The Plan" is a true-life adventure. The main character is the author himself who moved from Sri Lanka to England and then to Africa before making his final tent in Australia. An innate teacher, he never really deviated from that calling in life. While much of the book tells of his successful contribution to the expansive world of teaching, it is also a story of personal loss and tragedy as exemplified by his account of the loss of his dear wife, Jasmine, whom the author traveled the world with their three sons. He fondly remembers his wife for her understanding and support she readily rendered to his life's success and contentment.
