I looked once and knew he was going to be mine." Joanne has been a devout Catholic her entire life, but she didn't marry a Catholic man. She married a Jewish saint. Hal was a lonely, badly dressed, underemployed genius-in-his-late-twenties when she met him. His goal in life was to be a family man, but he could not get a date. The last time he had a girlfriend was in third grade. Joanne made it possible for him to fulfill his dreams. In turn, Hal enabled Joanne to find sanity. Joanne's bipolar symptoms, which run in her family, subsided when, at Hal's insistence, she started taking medication. Joanne was able to stop the cycle of bad parenting that had plagued her relatives for generations. Hal and Joanne lovingly raised their four children, two by birth and two by adoption. At age sixty-six, Hal died of pancreatic cancer. And yet, even after his death, he continues to fill Joanne's life with unconditional love. When you wake up in the morning, you feel that it is just another ordinary day, but someday, it could be a very special day that could change your life.February 1, 2022, was that day in my life. I quit my job after arriving at my office without thinking twice. A spur of the moment decision, but I haven't regretted it. I started to look at the bucket list of things that I wanted to do before dying, and the voice of the Camino de Santiago started calling me. Two weeks later, I was on this old-fashioned pilgrimage trail with my backpack.

Writing has always been my emotional support and spiritual comfort. Being able to verbalize how I'm feeling through writing has always been an amazing experience for me and will continue to be. Not having many friends, I would just sit and write as a child and later as an adult, which has kept me at a level of emotional stability. I praise God for my gift of loving to write in my own way.

  • - Through the Eyes of a Child
    av Monika Danhof
    236 - 354,-

The following are true stories from children growing up in a strange and bizarre world under the notorious Nazi Regime during WWII, authentically telling them in their own words and as seen through the "eyes of a child." They constantly feared and wondered about some horrible things they had seen and heard--people being forcefully dragged out of their homes, dreadful screams from someone being beaten to death, lifeless bodies hanging from trees, friends and people they knew disappearing overnight--and were desperate to find out the truth in their own courageous ways as their many curious questions were harshly brushed away with the words "Hush, hush! You have not seen anything, and you do not tell anyone!" Bravely, they endured earth-shattering air raids in dark freezing-cold bunkers and shared the exhilarating joy expressed by every surviving soul. Amazingly, in the middle of chaos, they played happily in the rubble of war. Read about the children's own ingenious humanitarian aid campaigns they created and how their accomplishments were able to bring much-needed relief to many elderly and sick citizens of their small town. Lastly, learn about the children's curious and heart-warming relationships they formed with the soldiers of the Ninetieth Infantry Division of the United States Army in Germany in April 1945. This book is written for the children of "today and tomorrow" to remember the children of "yesterday."Monika Danhof

  • - My Life As A Deputy Sheriff
    av John G Roberts
    276

When I came home from Vietnam in 1970, I had no idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. A chance encounter with the Marshal of San Bernardino County led to my being hired as a deputy for the San Bernardino County, California Sheriff's Department. Thus began a 22-year career helping to police the largest county in the contiguous 48 states. At over 20,000 square miles, San Bernardino County could hold the states of Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey and Rhode Island within its borders with room to spare. It is larger than the entire country of Switzerland.During my career, I served as a jail deputy, patrol deputy, and as a helicopter observer with the sheriff's aviation division. As a member of the West End Search and Rescue Team, I participated in the search for singer Frank Sinatra's mother when she was killed in a plane crash on San Gorgonio Mountain. I worked as a detective, field training officer, correctional training officer and shift supervisor until I was injured while serving a search warrant and had to retire. It was an interesting and rewarding career in which I met many colorful characters, such as actors Steve McQueen and James Garner. I had the opportunity to meet Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan before my career ended. During my time with the sheriff's department, I helped bring the department from an 'old west' style of law enforcement into the modern age of helicopter patrols, computer-aided dispatching and computers in patrol cars. I hope you will join me on this adventure of a lifetime

Was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and as a child, I had so many different experiences. I remember things and situations that people have forgotten all about. The things I remember are the things that I kept in my heart because they stuck with me. Many times, I feel like I have never left being that child that I once was. As the years left me, I stayed in the same place mentally because the little girl inside my mind never left. The times I remember spending with my dad are times I can never forget. I always wanted him in my life, especially when I would see my cousins or my friends with their dad. Losing him at a young age put a dent in my life growing up. I compared him to every man that came into my life. I compared him to every situation that I ran into. Although my father was no life. The most traumatizing situation was when our friend was killed on our porch, and Youngstown started the rumor that we set him up. My life changed forever when I and my brothers separated. My uncle and my cousin were like brothers to me, so they were considered my brothers.
