Poetic Turbulence is a poetic memoir about living with the mental illness of Borderline Personality Disorder. A memoir which expresses the lifelong journey, and the struggles the illness presents through poetry, stories and quotes.
Brenda Jean was a Second World War baby, who would not see her father until she was nearly two years old. She grew up the older of three children and was a good example for her sister and brother. She was a gifted child and loved all things artistic and she strove to become a part of that world, in some way. Brenda did attempt artistic endeavors, however, her capricious father forbid any exuberance on her part, even when she was applauded for her efforts to show others her talents. In time Brenda withdrew any thought of showing off her talent and eventually held back any thought of asking for praise. Although, over time she found a solution through writing and most specifically poetry.Brendas poetry spans three decades and, for most was kept stowed away among her personal affects, only to be found by me, after she had passed away in April 2023.Brendas amazing talent in creating poetry will now receive the applause it deserves, since her ability and skill is now available for all to enjoy.
These are the events of how my view of the world was manipulated in such a way that I lived my life in fight or flight mode for more than 30 years and how it took a mental breakdown to find healing, hope and even some peace. All the abuse, neglect, trauma and manipulation taught me to be scared of the world at a very young age. That exponentially multiplied itself in high school where I was robbed twice, once resulting in a crushed eye socket and even more so when the abuse continued in my first marriage. At 39 years old, married for 14 years with a 5 year old daughter, my brain snapped. Its taken 4 years of massive amounts of support, therapy and meds to get to the point where I'm comfortable with myself and sharing this story. The love and support of what's left of my family has been irreplaceable. Ultimately God gets all the glory for seeing me through the first 43 years of my life and now I give the rest to Him. I'm honored to have the ability to share this with you. My prayer for anyone suffering like I did for so long is to seek help with not only a professional, but seek help through God first.
This is a collection of eight amazing stories of people who went through both common and extraordinary circumstances. Step into accounts of everyday hardships interwoven with miraculous endings, as well as stories of God's light piercing through deep darkness and delivering people from unbearably heavy situations: A young boy from Yugoslavia, persecuted because of his German background, seeing his mother suffer cruelly, being abused by his step-father, and living in a graveyard for years as a teenager. A young soldier, surviving a serious accident in the war in Afghanistan, left without any hope and on the brink of suicide. A life full of fleeting pleasures - drinking, girlfriends, pornography - all leaving a young man empty and unsatisfied. Young parents going through the unimaginable as they watch their firstborn five-year-old daughter battle an aggressive brain tumor. "These true life stories shake, question, and invite us all into the embrace of the One who calls us all to his yoke and his rest." -arko orevi, Professor of Theology at the Faculty of Theology in Novi Sad; Bible Translator (New Serbian Translation); editor of this book in original Serbian language Each of these true stories - collected by the author from people she knows personally - showcases the astonishing grace of God. Each is a powerful testimony that will not leave you indifferent, but will inspire you towards a deeper walk with Christ, who is the main character throughout this book and the source of all hope and perseverance. Be ready for this book to captivate you from the first page to the last.
Growing up in a small Florida town, the author's family and they often attended church services and followed Christ as their Lord and Savior. They also lived near their maternal grandparents, who were close friends. One day, the author's grandmother smashed her arm, leading to her mother's warning about consequences. The mystery behind a failed molestation attempt remains unsolved, the author never slept over at her grandmother's home again. One Sunday, the author's cousins and aunt went on a trampoline ride, and the author got two hairline fractures in her right leg. After her maternal grandma passed away from diabetes, the author formed a close bond with her grandfather. The grandfather would take them shopping and share stories of his wartime experiences. Their friendship deepened with age and survived his second marriage.A prostate tumor was discovered after one year, and the doctor operated immediately and started chemotherapy. After chemo, the patient appeared to be in remission. However, the author's grandfather began experiencing double visions on the drive home, which led to his death. The author's brother took him to appointments, and the author's step grandmother shared a room, where he took his last breath. The night he died, the sky was clear and calm, and their pastor prayed for them. The author recalls walking in the woods near their house with best friend Starlight, where they noticed three unrelated carcasses and heard something walking behind them. They ran away, but none of their family believed them. They also remember getting a barn kitten from Starlight, named George, who was initially sweet but later became sassy due to an allergic reaction to a flea spray.Peter got a gray and white male cat named Snowflake, who initially ignored him but eventually pounced on her. She would run in terror when Snowflake tried to play back, making her behavior funny but not funny at the same time. The author enjoyed being in the choral group from middle school through junior year in high school, but never had the opportunity to further their instrumental knowledge. In sixth grade, they broke an ankle and had to have a pin put in, which affected their ability to learn vocally. After the choral group ended, the author continued singing in a choir, as they were part of the church's choir.During this time, the author's brother Peter had been caught sleeping with his girlfriend and he charged at the author before the girlfriend pulled him away, the author was too scared to tell them about it. The author realizes that they should have said something about the incident, as it still haunts them. The author recounts their experiences with clubbing, and the fun they had with friends. They were able to enjoy the company of their father Dan, who worked at a local Ford dealership. They learned how to change tires, brakes, and fix spark plugs from him. One day, they blamed a fish for eating their ice cream, which led to a heated argument with Uncle Jack.As a senior in high school, they took an ASFAB test to determine their compatibility for the military. Despite not being a great test taker, they excelled in the mechanics section, outperforming most other students.
Spellbound from a young age by his natural surroundings in rural Africa instilled a passion for nature in the author. Initially captivated by stories of naturalists from old Africa, he later realised that the era had come to an end. Instead, he was swept up and inspired by the fascinating world of science and opted to study various ecosystems and their associated species. This set the stage for a fulfilling career involving copious amounts of fieldwork and outdoor activities. Once the circumstances in South Africa spiralled downward, he and his family emigrated for their safety and a more promising future. When he thought he had left his exciting and adventurous lifestyle behind, it was not to be...

This is the journey of my first year driving a semi. The ups and downs, I hope you find some humor in the midst of these pages along with the realism of the trucking industry. I share on a daily basis, called daily logs, of what I went through each day to deliver product.I hope you can see how God worked in my life as He opened up parking spots for me and the people that helped me back into the different docks. I also hope this lets you see some of the struggles of what truckers go through each day as they deliver product across the nation.
Growing old, I have many things to be grateful for. The young lady I met after getting out of the Navy (I still can see her after fifty years), the petite five-foot skinny long brown hair to her shoulder, brunette, she wore blue slacks with a checkered blue-and-white blouse. I will never forget the first sighting of her; the monument will live in my mind forever. I am grateful for my three children, my seven grandchildren, and my five great-grandchildren. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. After the loss of my wife after thirty-one years and my firstborn, who found life too hard to handle, took the easy way out, not realizing that we all belong to someone other than ourselves; yes, it is my life, but is it? Who do we leave behind, and what are the repercussions of it? Without a doubt, people's lives will be changed. I have many memories of our adventures, traveling to the many states across the United States of America. "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page" (St. Augustine). No one wants to live in the past. Anyone who is above the age of seventy has lived to tell you this is true. The worst thing about growing old is the ones you leave behind. Even worse are the items they left behind: the items you can touch remembering who gave them to you or the items you gave to them. For every house that has lost someone, their ghost or angel is still there walking around keeping you warm, a breath of fresh air with a scent when there is no scent for you to smell. Most individuals live on memories, wishing they could do some of their past again. My book is about life, and I am sharing it with you. I have made many mistakes; maybe you can adjust your life to make it a little better for those you care for.
By the time he was 15, the author had lived at 10 different addresses and started over at seven different schools. At age fifteen he had lived enough torment and brutality, from his father who killed his mother in one of his violent rages when Jim was nine years old. Moving on, leaving behind, his father and his oldest, unfortunate, now adult brother. Jim still had much learning to do, through what was to be a very differently challenging, but in the end, rewarding and wonderfully satisfying culmination. Walk this amazing journey with Jim and discover how your road, yet to be travelled, need not be mapped, by that, travelled, so far.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, and citizen of the world. Through the process of mixing the mind, the knowledge, the emotions, and the feelings of working in the field of medicine, the art of practicing my specialty was becoming more and more an art of trying to be love in action, sharing compassion and benevolence in each encounter with the person in need. Giving what I have, what I know, what I can feel and what I can think, to help the patient to achieve the necessary balance for the recovery of the stage of health wanted, was progressively pushing me out of the doctor's office and the hospital to go to the people in need, where they were in different parts of the world. In time, the art of practicing medicine was becoming the art of the sharing of the God in me with the God in the world.
Having signed on the dotted line to be an Irish guardsman not fully understanding all that Queen and country, and other territories stuff, that after six weeks on my own help only by others, I slept beside in the gutter since leaving Ireland to see the world. Finding no work, food and shelter I was on my knees and making this last day as a homeless orphan in Liverpool to ask at the port about working my passage home to Dublin when I saw a window display asking for men to join the Irish guards that foxed my mind as to who or what Irish guards are. It was recruiter Sgt George Smylie Liverpool office kind offer of a cup of tea and biscuit and warm manner that close the deal making my dream to see the world happen.
Episodes Intertwined, Collection of Poetry 3. 1991- 1999 transpired during the first few years of being a single mother. I had too many issues on the plate, too many tribulations and too many characters to deal with. Everything was set to bring me down and keep me down, afraid and alone. But when I was on the ground, I looked up to the heavens and it seems the black clouds opened up to let the sun shine on me. Then, things became clear and those characters inflicting pain in me were disregarded or pushed aside.
Lee Datrice was just six when his father first called him a hustler. Since he was a little boy, he has always been about the hustle. In short, Datrice loves switching it up in life. In a retelling of his roller coaster journey through life, Datrice begins by detailing his personal experiences while growing up in San Francisco as an only child of divorced parents who started his first hustle collecting pop bottles for money and recruiting other neighborhood children to work for him. When his father moved with him to Louisiana a short time later, Datrice shares entertaining stories of how he rode a pony and cart down a country dirt road and managed to escape a determined blue racer snake. Born and Raised to Hustle is the memoir of a talented hustler who has always worked hard and managed to do whatever it takes to survive the wild times and challenges that life brings.

Dive into the heart and soul of a yogi. Wander through the fields of a turbulent century observed through the lens of a wry yet affectionate sense of humour. Expressing a vision that is both optimistic and profound, this book charts a route towards the fabled Golden Age of Enlightenment - a goal found to be enticingly close, yet seemingly beyond the reach of modern man. Drawing upon such disparate sources as the ancient "I Ching" and the engraver, poet and prophet William Blake, the author finds continuity between these distant voices as oracles whose fiery course across the heavens illuminates the condition of Man and revels in his inheritance. Inspired by his meditations, the author records in poetic expression, the deepening of the state of contemplation whose beauty beckons the seeker and yogi alike. Thrilling and revelatory, the inner mechanism of the subtle body system is examined providing a roadmap for the soul on the path to enlightenment. At the very heart of this book is a collection of personal memories of the greatest teacher of yoga that the world has seen, whose dedication to raising the awareness of humanity became her lifework. These simple stories reveal the love and warmth of a teacher who captured the hearts of all those who met her and allow the reader a glimpse into the light of a great soul.

From visionary director Jon M. Chu comes a powerful, inspiring memoir of belonging, creativity, and learning to see who you really are. Long before he directed Wicked, In The Heights, or the groundbreaking film Crazy Rich Asians, Jon M. Chu was a movie-obsessed first-generation Chinese American, helping at his parents' Chinese restaurant in Silicon Valley and forever facing the cultural identity crisis endemic to children of immigrants. Growing up on the cutting edge of twenty-first-century technology gave Chu the tools he needed to make his mark at USC film school, and to be discovered by Steven Spielberg, but he soon found himself struggling to understand who he was. In this book, for the first time, Chu turns the lens on his own life and work, telling the universal story of questioning what it means when your dreams collide with your circumstances, and showing how it's possible to succeed even when the world changes beyond all recognition. With striking candor and unrivaled insights, Chu offers a firsthand account of the collision of Silicon Valley and Hollywood--what it's been like to watch his old world shatter and reshape his new one. Ultimately, Viewfinder is about reckoning with your own story, becoming your most creative self, and finding a path all your own.
When Mike Leckrone retired as director of bands at the University of Wisconsin in 2019, he had served in that role for an astonishing fifty years. A brilliant showman, he became known for aerial entries and sequined outfits. He created the Fifth Quarter celebration that follows all home football games, removed barriers for women to march in the band, and established regular appearances at Camp Randall by special-needs high school musicians. Above all, Leckrone has always sought joy in life--which, along with his sixty-year love affair with his late wife, UW "band mom" Phyllis Leckrone, was perhaps the secret to his remarkable career. A consummate musician, as both a trumpeter and an arranger, Leckrone remains an outstanding raconteur--a talent beautifully on display in his long-awaited memoir. This book is the next best thing to sitting down with this master storyteller. Coauthor Doug Moe captures the joys of performing--whether at Camp Randall, in the Kohl Center, or along the Rose Bowl Parade route. Reading Leckrone's story, one comes to understand the mix of discipline, showmanship, work ethic, warmth, toughness, wit, and musical skill that make him a Wisconsin treasure. Even for people who know Leckrone, Moments of Happiness details the stories behind the highlights and the unglamorous work that made his accomplishments possible. It both cements his legend and offers unprecedented insights into a career that will never be equaled.
Sometimes life has other plans... Sara Bovitz knew how lucky she was - a fulfilling career as a physician, two beautiful children at home, a husband she adored who was the family's center of gravity - she was complete. Until the wheels came off. When her husband JJ dies after a long battle with brain cancer, it is 3:30 in the morning and a record-breaking blizzard rages outside. By sunrise the city is paralyzed, entombed in 15 inches of snow, and the world has stopped on its axis. But the storm is just beginning for Sara and her two young sons as they struggle to forge a path through their grief. Her qualifications as a doctor are useless, her skills as an only-parent are embryonic, and she knows nothing about the anatomy of a correctly made PB&J sandwich. The Tricycle offers an intimate portrait of heartbreak, told with humility and humor, as Sara learns what it means to reimagine their lives. It is a powerful reminder that there is light even in your darkest moments, and will leave you rooting for Sara and her boys long after you read the last page. "Only the very best memoirists can bring a reader through hell and leave them thankful for the journey. Sara Bovitz is one such writer. Her gorgeous and sometimes very funny memoir, The Tricycle, will stay with me forever for its vivid, life affirming and poignant snapshots of family life as her clan went from four to three. It's powerful not just because Sara writes so well, but because she has lived so well. I will be sharing copies of this book with friends new to grief for the rest of my life." - Lizzie Simon, author of Detour
You've seen them riding down the street...dark pants, white shirts, dark ties, with a black, square name badge over their breast pocket. Baby-faced, and oddly handsome, these young missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seem to be everywhere. They have been lampooned on TV, in the movies, and on Broadway. They are endlessly mocked, yet they seem to always take the criticism with a smile. You've seen them, but do you really know their story? I do. I was one of them. I entered the two-year mission in the late 1980s as a country-boy from East Texas, but I returned...different. My experiences in East Los Angeles changed me...I left battle-hardened and street savvy. The is not like any book about Mormons that I have ever seen. The stories in the book from the Arcadia Mission are the unvarnished truth of my experience. The book is accessible to Mormons and non-Mormons alike. Members of the Church will appreciate the stories from a devout perspective. Non-Mormons get a tasty look "behind the curtains." How does a missionary handle Hollywood, hookers, and homicides?
