Jack Bool is a photographer based in Los Angeles. Assembly is his first photo book. The pictures in this book were made throughout the past few years: the couple living in the surfing community of New Smyrna, and the boys of Waimea Bay have golden tans and their scars like footprints in the sand; his cousin graduated from a fire academy in Phoenix, Arizona - he lit some buildings on fire and split a car in half while a crowd cheered. "These gatherings felt performative, like some grand American theatre," Bool says, "I often found myself complicit within this fantasy, and my camera for better or worse tucked away. " In Bool's photography, storytelling is always at the core of his work. This book is about touching, and an eagerness to meet with people and places. And then the camera becomes an excuse.

The New Cubans is a visual journey into this lesser-known Cuba, uprooting the cliché depictions of Cuban cigars, vintage cars, all-inclusive resorts, and Cold War echoes. Over recent years, an imperfect storm of global and local circumstances has reinvigorated Cuba’s creative and alternative subcultures like never before. Largely driven by the recent widespread Internet access and the relaxation of the embargo during the Obama administration, the younger generation has increasingly embraced global influences, while suffering from the dire economic context on the island. Due to Cuba’s strict COVID-19 lockdowns and renewed U.S. sanctions, few overseas visitors have witnessed this vibrant new reality. But Cuba also faces the largest migration crisis in its existence. In the past few years alone, hundreds of thousands of Cubans have left the country, many of them younger people. Many of the author’s subjects have since fled the island or intend to, making his photographs vestiges of rapidly vanishing social circles and moments in Cuban history. Comprising more than 150 intimate, revealing photographs over 256 pages, The New Cubans is augmented with profiles of the fascinating individuals who welcomed Bouchard into their world. The book also features an interview with NYC-based photographer Matthew Leifheit and an essay by Cuban-based art critic Jorge Peré. Devon Ruiz, the photographer’s close collaborator who’s a vivacious star in the nightlife and art scenes in Havana, contributes heartfelt text. The book’s ultimate aim is to reveal the lesser-known but vibrant Cuban inclusiveness, gender-diversity openness, and the lifestyles of the younger, connected Cubans who will shape the future of the island or leave it behind in search of new possibilities.

Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to authentically portraying the human experience across diverse communities.Larry Fink: Hands On / A Passionate Life of Looking presents a comprehensive exploration of Fink's remarkable career for the first time. Over his lifetime, Fink meticulously stored his images in boxes, where they often remained forgotten for months or even years. However, during the pandemic, Fink dedicated himself to combing through these boxes with the dream of creating a retrospective of his work: photographs and beat-style poetry. This endeavor gained momentum when Daniel Power, founder of powerHouse Books and a longtime collaborator of Fink, photographers Jonno Rattman and Jamie Cabreza, and art director Yolanda Cuomo joined Fink in his archival journey. They unearthed a trove of unseen treasures, resulting in a meticulously curated 432-page testament to Fink's unparalleled creativity alongside his trademark jazz poetry. Fink’s vast repertoire includes photographs of celebrities like Jay-Z and Meryl Streep, protesters marching down streets, and boxers in the ring (Including a look into his other books, Boxing (1998), Runway (2000), Social Graces (2001), Forbidden Pictures (2004), and The Beats (2014)). This book reaches even further by including non-human subjects like intimate portraits of insects in their natural habitat and dead animals grotesquely displayed. Larry Fink's distinctive signature – his raw and experimental approach, his spontaneity, his interest in class commentary, and his intimate perspective – are presented in a manner unprecedented in his body of work, applied to subject matter viewers have rarely seen Fink tackle. Each image, painstakingly selected, offers a poignant insight into Fink's unwavering commitment to his craft and insatiable curiosity about the world.

This study argues that intimacy requires an overcoming of shame, and each of these artists, in their own way, uses photography to frame moments that can be shameful to some and intimate others, leaving it to the viewer to navigate this affectively perilous terrain.

An Annual Affair: Some Traditional British Calendar Customs is the culmination of over fifteen years work by leading UK photographer Homer Sykes. Over that period he has searched out and photographed an extraordinary range of traditional annual events and customs that are steeped in British local history and heritage. Most are unknown outside their immediate community. An Annual Affair is the conclusion of a career long photographic documentation of traditional annual country customs and small town traditions. It follows on from Sykes' highly successful book Once A Year, first published in 1977 and most recently republished in 2016 by Dewi Lewis Publishing. In this new book there are over 140 photographs from nearly 80 different events, all but three not previously photographed by Sykes. At the back of the book there is a fascinating section dedicated to fuller captions and explanations regarding the history and origin of each event. Homer Sykes has published more than 16 books. He has featured in magazines worldwide and has exhibited widely, with his first show being held in 1971 at the ICA, London. He was even the first British photographer to be granted a one man exhibition in the prestigious Maison Robert Doisneau museum in Paris.
