The first student guide to American autobiographyThis introduction to the major forms of autobiographical writing in America and important current developments in autobiography studies discusses both 'canonised' texts and those from contemporary writers. Taking a broadly chronological approach, the history of American autobiography is explored including the social and cultural factors that might account for the importance of autobiography in American culture. The American Short Story since 1950 offers a reappraisal and contextualisation of a critically underrated genre during a particularly rich period in its history. Jeffrey Orr is Associate Professor of Digital Communication and Associate of the Centre for Global Development at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Canada. His research interests include visual rhetoric, border studies, and micro-rhetorical communication. His current research examines the rhetoric of governmental health communication, and public rhetoric pertaining to border policy on the Arctic.
