Salut d'amour Op. 12, arranged for piano solo by Edward Elgar. This Urtext edition is edited by Donald Burrows.Salut d'amour was a considerable success in Elgar's lifetime. Originally composed for violin and piano, he subsequently incorporated the violin melody into this piano arrangment, resulting in a technically challenging but satisfying piece that requires some dexterity from the player. This edition, based on the one in "The Art of French Song", presents Faure's arguably most famous song Aprés un rêve, prepared by the French music expert Roger Nichols, in an extremely practical publication: in three alternative keys for high, medium and low voices, C minor (the original key), D minor and Bb minor. One of the primary musical themes of the work is an adaptation of a song that comes from the Esan people, a small ethnic group in the southern part of Nigeria and the tribe to which the composer has deep historical and family ties.The Esan language is poetic in nature and, at various moments in the work, the musicians chant the text from an Esan song: Ekine leleyea do obhimen la doeki nalo (My investment in you is paid off. O Salutaris Hostia is one of Eriks Esenvalds' most popular pieces. Originally written for female voices, the composer later created a version for full choir on which this arrangement is based. It has a gentle meditation with the two soloists drifting across the soft band accompaniment, alternately echoing and imitating each other or joining together in thirds. The effect is quietly ecstatic, a brief moment of adoration and wonderment. Can you hear me? is written for eight-part a cappella choir and sets a new text by Peter Thomson that asks simple but fundamental questions about the need for human contact. First performed by the National Youth Choir of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall, London in December 2021, it captures one of the problems the world faced with the Covid-19 lockdown, and looks forward to new beginnings. Duration is 4.5 minutes.
The Sleeping Soul is an atmospheric five-minute piece for SATB choir with organ, at times evoking the mystery of the text and at other moments expressing joy contained in it. It was composed for the Bath Abbey Music Society in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Abbey Girls Choir in 2017. The work sets a text by the Christian medieval mystic St Mechthild of Magdeburg (c.1207-c.1297).

Edited by prominent violist and arranger Watson Forbes, this edition keeps the two viola parts exactly as they appear in the score, while the other orchestral parts have been freely arranged for piano accompaniment.
