The description of uranium and its compounds, for which the Gmelin Institute has started a series of volumes supplementing the main volume of 1936, follows in its arrangement closely the order chosen for the transuranium volumes.
This volume describes binary nitrogen-hydrogen compounds having two, three or more nitrogen atoms, with the exception of hydrazine. It also describes those compounds composed of nitrogen, hydrogen and noble gases.
Starting with the binary species formed between phosphorus and hydrogen, the present volume deals with the neutral mononuclear compounds PH through PH ; PH and PH are the major initial gaseous decomposition products of PH and, thus, also 2 J intermediates in many of its gas-phase reactions.
A broad coverage of boron topics is provided. Special attention is devoted to theoretical studies and calculations on small boron-hydrogen and boron-noble gas species including molecules like BH, which are rather favorite subjects of theoreticians for testing various methods of calculation.
This volume C 3, as a part of the Gmelin "Thorium" Handbook, Series C, describes the thorium-nitrogen compounds.
The present volume, Thorium C5, deals with the compounds of thorium and sulfur, selenium, tellurium, and boron, as well as with oxoacid compounds of the three chalcogen elements. Thorium sulfates are of some technological importance because they are formed in solution during recovery of thorium from monazite by sulfuric acid leaching.
This is a critical compilation of crystallographic data prepared by the University of Geneva. It contains over 3200 compounds representative of the structure types found among inorganic compounds. The work aims to clarify and classify data for intermetallic and other inorganic structures.
Of system-number "Manganese", Part B, which de- scribes the Element Manganese, has been completed. Part D is devoted to the coordination compounds. Part D 1, D 2, D 3, D 4, D 5 and D 6 thereof are already available. The present volume "Manganese D 7" continues the description of the coordination compounds.
Following the indium triorganyls and their adducts with Lewis bases in Section 1, the broad field of compounds of the general type R ln- n 3 n (n = 1, 2) is treated in sections 2 to 9; Ionic species, predominantly [R lnX -n]-compounds (n = 1 to 4), close the series of trivalent n 4 organoindium compounds and are collected in Section 11.
The present Supplement Volume Beryllium A 3 continues and completes the description of the physical properties of the element, begun in Supplement Volume A 2, 1991, and also treats the electrochemical behavior of the metal.
With platinum and rhodium, palladium is one of the most important members of the platinum metal group. The chemistry of the palladium-hydrogen system is so large that it merits a separate volume, so this book starts with the binary oxides and oxopalladates followed by hydroxides, hydroxo complexes and aquo complexes.
The first supplement consisting of 3 volumes covered all the literature uniformly up to the end of 1977, whereas the two volumes of the 2nd supplement have extended the literature coverage of boron compounds to 1980 and the four volumes of the 3rd supplement to 1984.
Volume 1 (systems with hydrogen and noble gases) of this particular supplement will be published subsequently, whereas Volume 3a (boron and nitrogen), Volume 3b (boron and nitrogen, boron and fluorine), and Volume 4 (boron compounds containing Cl, Br, I, S, Se, and Te, as well as a section containing carboranes) have already been published.
The present volume, "Organoosmium Compounds" 8 6, systematically covers the litera ture through 1992, including many later references. 80th volumes deal with trinuclear compounds with ligands other than CO which are bonded to Os by one carbon atom ("1L ligands "), regardless of whether the ligand is additionally coordinated to Os by heteroatoms.
