The present catalogue is the fourth and final volume in a series that covers the Turkish manuscripts preserved in public libraries and museums in the Netherlands. This volume gives detailed descriptions of Turkish manuscripts in minor Dutch collections, found in libraries and museums in Leiden, Utrecht, Groningen and other towns.
These essays deal with aspects of the development of printing and print culture, in the 10th-20th centuries, in Iran, Kurdistan, Turkey, Egypt, the Maghrib, Germany and Latin America, and in the Arabic, Judæo-Arabic, Syriac, Ottoman Turkish, Kurdish and Persian languages.
All known Ottoman Turkish and Çaĝatay manuscripts in Canada are described in detail, accompanied by many colour illustrations. Of the total of over 275 manuscripts, covering a wide range of subjects, more than 200 are in the collection of Professor Eleazar Birnbaum. Many are rare and most were calligraphed between the 15th and 17th centuries.
