This second of three parts of the History of the Polish Intelligentsia analyses the growing importance of the intelligentsia in the epoch marked by the triumph of Polish romanticism. The stress is put on the debates of the position of intelligentsia in the society, as well as on tensions between great romantic ideas and realities of everyday life.
A monograph on the social history of meat in Poland under the Communist regime (1945-1989). The analysis includes, among other things, problems of meat demand and supply in post-war Poland, abuses in meat production and distribution, and the role of meat in the everyday life of Polish families.
The achievements of Western democracies (equality, rule of law, social justice) are met with growing disdain. A hierarchical system, largely derived from the nation-state model, pits the (scorned) elites against the (disdained) people. Die Autoren untersuchen die historische und kunstgeschichtliche Bedeutung der Schlösser mit Blick auf den Verlauf der Entscheidungsprozesse und der begleitenden Pressedebatten sowie schließlich auf die öffentliche Wahrnehmung der Bauten. Während das Berliner Projekt sich unter weitgehender Ausblendung der politischen zumindest ansatzweise auf die kulturelle Tradition Preußens beruft und als ein wichtiges Image-Projekt Deutschlands fungiert, hat das Posener fast ausschließlich eine lokale und politische Dimension, die nur im Kontext der Konkurrenz polnischer Städte um nationale Bedeutung zu verstehen ist.
