After years of detailed research, the illustrious and unique heritage of the Irish and their diaspora comes to light. The intriguing ancestry and life events of James Mahony O'Sullivan and Ellen Frawley have been recorded in this separate volume, which covers the Irish families of O'Sullivan, MacCarthy, Mahony, Saunders, Hennessy, FitzGerald and Herbert amongst many others, and makes up just one book of a series from the genealogical investigations of Dr Tracy Rockwell. The publication presents many aspects of Irish and Australian history, which runs in tandem with the genealogical character of the work, across 584 image packed pages.
They evolved out of the post-Federation years, overcoming four of the greatest challengesof human history, which were the Spanish In uenza of 1919, the Great Depression and thetwo World Wars. Against these greatest of dif culties these Australians accomplished the tasksnecessary for survival, and succeeded in rearing six children. This genealogy is dedicated tothe memory of Robert Archibald Rockwell and his wife Octavia Corelli O'Sullivan, but thematerial also honours the ancestors that came before them. The research was undertakento preserve family memories and old stories, verses, photographs, traditions, pedigrees andsuch otsam and jetsam that might be otherwise hopelessly lost. The aim in recording andpublishing these details is to have done some justice to the memory, labours and hardships ofthe ancestors from whom we descend. The lineage of Rockwell, Bantin, O'Sullivan, Shovellerand their associated families continues today, with the blood of these forebears owing at thisvery moment through the bodies of their descendants, all immensely proud and thankful forthe foresight and courage they have inherited. While much of the detailed history of the ancestors in these pages shall remain buried inthe sands of time, I hope in this publication to have shone a light upon the fascinating lives ofa few, for its the past that tells us who we are. In this work I hope to have rescued from thewaters of oblivion the lovingly collected material contained in these pages, and desire it to beof benefit to those who are passionate about these families, the people, the historic events they experienced and their many captivating stories and anecdotes.
