When my children were little I told them bedtime stories most every night. One evening I created the characters Hatty and Barty and told them a story about these new fictional characters. Both of my children loved this story so much that from that night forward they would only let me tell them stories about Hatty and Barty. I told these Hatty and Barty stories for several years. It was quite a stretch to my creativity after a while to keep coming up with new ideas and story subject matter but somehow I always managed to do so and I always enjoyed telling them.Sometimes when I was tired, I would get to the crucial point in the story and then tell my children "to be continued". Their response would be "No Dad! Finish the story!" Usually I wouldn't relent and then the next night sometimes I would forget the story I had started the night before and this would create greater consternation.

Cuando mis hijos eran pequeños, les contaba cuentos antes de dormir casi todas las noches. Una tarde creé los personajes Hatty y Barty y les conté una historia sobre estos nuevos personajes ficticios. A mis dos hijos les encantó tanto esta historia que a partir de esa noche solo me dejaron contarles historias sobre Hatty y Barty. Conté estas historias de Hatty y Barty durante varios años. Fue un gran esfuerzo para mi creatividad después de un tiempo seguir generando nuevas ideas y temas de historias, pero de alguna manera siempre lo lograba y siempre disfrutaba contándolos. A veces, cuando estaba cansada, llegaba al punto crucial de la historia y luego les decía a mis hijos "continuará". Su respuesta sería "¡No papá! ¡Termina la historia!" Por lo general, no cedía y luego, a la noche siguiente, a veces me olvidaba de la historia que había comenzado la noche anterior y esto creaba una mayor consternación.
