Every year, my grandma makes sure the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival looks and feels magical. This year, my family has to make sure it is magical for her. We will buy as many moon-shaped fruits as we can, stop by her favorite bakery to get mooncakes with white lotus seeds, decorate our backyard with beautiful lanterns, and make dinner. I hope she likes it! Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! May the full moon bring blessings and happiness from our home to yours. Ages 3 to 8.
Seven-year-old Valentina and her loving family introduce little readers to Valentina's favorite celebration of the year: the Day of the Dead. Together with her family she visits the cemetery, decorates her home, bakes pan de muerto, listens to her grandfather's singing, and goes to festivals with her sister Sofia. But the most important part of the celebration for Valentina is when her family shares stories about her great-grandparents over dinner. She loves those stories because family is everything.
Seven-year-old Valentina and her loving family introduce little readers to the Spanish alphabet in this beautifully illustrated, Spanish/English book. Inspired by traditional Mexican art, this book presents Valentina's family munching on dulces and raspas, celebrating quinceanera, going to outdoor festivals, dancing jarabe tapatio, and taking a trip to Mexico.
