When 12-year-old Bob Kirkland walked down the long aisle of a Gospel crusade and asked Jesus to be his personal Saviour, little did he know that his life would be changed forever-and not just his, but his brother, his mother, and his very lost father. Thus began Bob's adventure in Christian living. As a church planter and a Baptist preacher, Bob has gone through many hills and valleys, but of these, he says, "We love the mountaintop experiences; however, it is in the valleys where everything grows." Through these hills and valleys, Bob developed a life of trusting the Lord and giving thanks in all things, even during the most challenging times and darkest moments. In essence, the trusting and the giving of thanks were byproducts of Bob's profound understanding of God's sufficiency through man's weakness. "If God has accomplished anything good through my life," Bob explains, "it has been in spite of me not because of me." It is Pastor Kirkland's hope and prayer that his story will point the unsaved to the Saviour and also encourage and exhort believers in Christ to trust in the Lord, for in that place of trusting, God can use us.
