It is an attempt to bring together and describe the broad sweep of social and political history relating to a small area in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, called Prestonfield. Fraying At The Edges is a novel set in a state where part of its territory is on the cusp of breaking away. It is a tale of murder, love, dysfunctional family relationships, politics and constitutional intrigue. The context is the period leading up to the 2014 Referendum on Scottish Independence. As the prime murder suspect takes flight the police are in hot pursuit with sites from Argyll to Edinburgh and from Northern Ireland to Cyprus forming the backdrop to the chase.

Edinburgh Plaques provides a guide to the majority of the numerous plaques found on walls and elsewhere in Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh. It offers an index to the plaques many named individuals celebrated and to those attached to many of the monuments that are not depictions of people. It gives brief details of the reasons for commemoration and for the location of the plaque . An alphabetical name sequence is followed by a sequence by city area and street to aid discovery. Graveyard epitaphs, public bench plaques, and plaques attached to statues are not covered. 'Edinburgh Plaques' is a companion volume to the author's 'Edinburgh Statues'.
