The body of a young woman is found and it falls to Tammy to solve the cold case. As she pursues the investigation, more bodies are found, all linked to the young woman; Tammy has a serial killer on her hands. As she pursues the leads presented to her, each conclusion stuns her: the killer is closer than she realizes.
While at a pub with her coworkers, Tammy runs into Barry Scott, a man she investigated for a series of murders, but who managed to get away due to lack of evidence. While leaving, Barry Scott is found dead in a nearby alley, and Tammy is suspect number one. As the evidence piles up, it doesn't look good for Tammy and she is forced to contact an old friend for help.
Tammy is bored with her job as a police investigator in Manchester and wishes to quit and move on. Right about the time she decides it's time for a new direction in her life, a man walks into the station claiming that he wishes to confess to a murder. His name is John Doe, and he is the Hartfield Killer.
