It teaches students the basics of continuous optimization and helps them better understand the mathematics from previous courses. The book focuses on general problems and the underlying theory. It covers the fundamental problems of constrained and unconstrained optimization, linear and convex programming, basic iterative solution algorithms, and more general iterative optimization methods.
This book brings together a number of important iterative algorithms for medical imaging, optimization, and statistical estimation. It incorporates recent work that has not appeared in other books and draws on the author¿s considerable research in the field, including his recently developed class of SUMMA algorithms. Related to sequential unconstrained minimization methods, the SUMMA class includes a wide range of iterative algorithms well known to researchers in various areas, such as statistics and image processing.
To help practical astronomers, all the photographs are systematically related to an Earth-based view. Organized to make it easy for astronomers to use, enabling ground-based images and views to be compared with the Orbiter photographs.
