He dreamed of travel and faraway places as a child while milking three cows andlaying on the haystack looking at the blue sky and thebright West Texas stars. After college, a run at theTexas legislature, a short term as editor and publisherof the Andrews Reporter, he started traveling for alarge steel company. He had written several poemswhile in college and as a reporter, but on his travelingjob, he was again all alone on the road and he beginto write again.Wining a trip to England got himthinking about other places to go. The Philippines,Poland, East Germany, India, Czechoslovakia,Pakistan, France, and Holland as well Belgium, Walesand Scotland was where he traveled until he zeroed inon Cuba.
