'By observing mental states you also become aware of the seven factors of enlightenment. These are: awareness of awareness, investigation of the Way, vigour, joy, serenity, concentration and equanimity.' (The Buddha, Maha Sattipatthana Sutta 14-16) The first two are paramount and the last five are outcomes of these. This is what this book is all about, becoming 'aware of awareness' through direct investigation and then continuing with further 'investigation of the Way' (the Tao, the nature of reality). Once one is aware of awareness then one can become 'A Light Unto Yourself' by undertaking further investigations not needing to relying on any 'teachings', although these may be useful for confirming what one has discovered. Comments from Peter Signell on the Author: 'I know Colin Drake through his magnificent writing.' 'Your words seem to always ring so true to me.' 'You can only imagine how much I have wished for this clarity.'
The main focus of this book is on Tantra which entails using our mind/bodies, and everything that we encounter, to aid and cultivate Awakening from the dream that we are separate objects in a universe of such. The result of this is to reveal that we are expressions, and instruments, of Consciousness through which That can 'know' and enjoy its physical manifestation - the universe and everything it contains. This book is a stand-alone guide to, and practices for, Awakening and is composed of poems based on articles in 'Fundamental Questions', which are themselves based on new discoveries, replies to questions and internet discussions on Awakening. The thrust of the book is that the initial awakening which reveals that, in essence, we are Pure Awareness is very simple to obtain. Then this needs to be established by repeated awakenings due to the natural tendency to 'nod off' and re-identify oneself as a separate object in a universe of separate objects. When one is awake then anxiety and unnecessary mental suffering disappear, for these are caused by this misidentification which causes us to see each other, and the world, through a murky filter of self-interest, self-concern, self-promotion, self-aggrandizement, self-loathing, the list is almost endless. It is this world-view that causes the anxiety and mental suffering based on concern for the future and feeling we are bound by the past.
Examines how the five mainstream religions conceive of 'our place in the universe' by considering their beliefs concerning: God; the creation; the nature of man; the purpose of life; and the afterlife.
The main aim of this book is to act as a stand-alone guide to Awakening; which is synonymous with Enlightenment when maintained. The title comes from a photo I took of the sunrise over the ocean which a friend suggested I use as for the cover. This book is composed of articles, resulting from my further investigations (and contemplations) into the nature of Reality. The thrust of the book is that beneath the surface appearance of thoughts (including all mental activity) and sensations there is a deeper level of being, which is the perceiver of these. The former are a flow of fleeting objects whereas the latter, which is the Awareness of these, is a constant conscious subjective presence. This is the only constant that has been (with) you since you were born and that which has witnessed your entire life. So this is what you actually are rather than the ever changing body/mind in which these thoughts and sensations have occurred.

Here are some comments by readers, and listeners to the audio, of some of the practices in the book: Beautiful process, Colin. .......clarity, simplicity, and profundity. Thanks for your passion and generosity! Lots of love, Paul. I love your guided meditation. A very lovely and kind offering; I love your voice: it is calm and it offers the vast space within which I can relish Self. Love, Shakti Thank you so much for your kind thoughtfulness in making this available. It is such a wonderful and helpful support in coming to know myself as just this. With love and gratitude, Gaye
This is a book of poems based on articles from 'Freedom From Anxiety and Needless Suffering' plus an unpublished selection praising and describing (facets of) The Absolute. I have been asked why write poetry after four books of prose? When discussing this with a poet friend of mine he asserted that poetry has the potential to be more powerful than prose, as it is more condensed and thus requires the reader to investigate its meaning more than prose, which tends to put the meaning 'on a plate'. As my writings are always an exhortation for the readers to investigate the Truth for themselves I was greatly attracted to this and I think that it has some validity. I have found that the discipline of rhyming forces one to look for new ways to say things, so that the poem produced often contains different 'pointers' than the poem on which it was based.
The main aim of this book is to act as a stand-alone guide to Awakening; which is synonymous with Enlightenment when maintained. The title comes from a photo I took of the dawning of a golden day which a friend suggested I use as for the cover. The main aim of this book is to act as a stand-alone guide to, and practices for, Awakening from the dream of being a separate object in a universe of such by following 'The Direct Path'. It is composed of articles, resulting from my further investigations (and contemplations) into the nature of Reality and replies to questions since the publication of 'Enlightenment Is For All'. The secondary theme of the book is to answer the five big fundamental questions :1. God: Is there a God, or an Absolute and if so what is its nature? 2. Creation: How was the universe created and what is the nature and purpose of this creation? 3. The Nature of Man: What is the essential nature of a human being - are we ephemeral material beings or do we possess some kind of indestructible essence? 4. The Purpose of Life: What is the purpose of life? 5. The Afterlife: What happens upon the death of the human body? Does this entail annihilation or is there some kind of afterlife and, if so, what is its nature?
This book is a collection of poems each based on a chapter of my book The Happiness That Needs Nothing - Pointers to That Which is Always Here. These books are pointers to awakening from the dream of being a separate object in a universe of such, and the joy that this produces. Here are some comments by readers of some of my poems: I love the clarity of your rhyming poems. The Dharma teaching is so direct and uncluttered. Wonderful. -- Colin Yardley Very well put Colin, fun, playful and sincere, I get it at the deepest level and my heart sings once more. -- Suzanne That poem is really beautiful! Based on the meditations, contemplations and experiences of forty years of spiritual search and practice.
This book has two aims, the first as a stand-alone guide to, and practices for, Awakening. Once this has taken place then anxiety and unnecessary mental suffering disappear, for these are caused by misidentifying oneself as a separate object in a world of separate objects. This causes us to see each other, and the world, through a murky filter of self-interest, self-concern, self-promotion etc. On Awakening one discovers that there truly is no separate self and so this filter is removed allowing us to see the world 'as it is' with no self-concern for the future or past. The second aim is to provide the reader with information on my spiritual journey. This will show the influences that have moulded my understanding so that the reader can understand the basis of my 'pointers to awakening' which constitute my books on the subject. One other thing that makes this book unique is that it is the first that contains all of the various practices that I have developed, and use(d), over the last eighteen years.
