BEAR MANOR MEDIA is proud to presentTHE NOVELIZERS by David Spencer ...which examines a rich literary category in a manner not merely for fans of media tie-in writing, but for new explorers, seasoned professionals...and even open-minded cynics. Advance praise from New York Times and internationally bestselling authors Lee Goldberg, Alan Dean Foster, Steven Savile and James Reasoner has already hailed it as "definitive"..."a milestone"..."an eye-opener"..."a genuine treasure"-plus "well-written, packed with information, and above all entertaining." Intertwined with its comprehensive history, reaching back to the silent movie era, THE NOVELIZERS is also a deep dive into the craft of adaptive and borrowed-universe storytelling.Aspiring and veteran writers seeking new insight will find it no less revelatory than the aficionado peering behind the curtain of the creative process. As you drink in the history and the craft, you'll also meet the people for whom the book is named-many of them profiled here for the first time anywhere-and fall in love with them, via in-depth interviews and evocative, close-up portraits. In the tradition of classic insider works about popular culture-such as William Goldman's Adventures in the Screen Trade, Craig Zadan's Sondheim & Co., and Marc Scott Zicree's The Twilight Zone Companion-David Spencer's THE NOVELIZERS resonates beyond its subject matter. It's not only the history of a genre...it's a full-blooded and deeply human chronicle of merging media in modern society. Of which tie-in writing has ever-increasingly become an inevitable, inextricable component.
My aim in writing this new history is to look at the positive aspects of my life in the army, and believe me, there were many. For the great majority of time, life was fulfilling, and was certainly better than working in a factory, which would probably have been my lot had I not joined up.Where else could I have earned my living playing some wonderful music and travelling both here and abroad doing something that I grew to love? It's the army that I have to thank for teaching me to play the clarinet in the first place, and for the deep love that I have to this day of music. Now, fifty years later, I still get great pleasure from spending an hour trying to play some of the wonderful music written for the instrument over the centuries. And its to the army that owe my success in gaining two very good careers. So really, not much to complain about, is there?
This off-beat musical by the composer of Little Shop of Horrors and the Disney films Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid is two one-act musicals of speculative fiction. The first, The Girl Who Was Plugged In, is about a homeless bag-lady whose soul is transplanted into the body of a gorgeous female android by a company which manufactures celebrities. The second, Her Pilgrim Soul, is about a scientist who researches holographic imaging. One day a mysterious "living" holograph, apparently a woman long dead, appears and changes his life forever.

Winner of the 1990 Verity Bargate Award, this play has as its theme the classic situation where a young writer betrays his family by exposing them in a novel. David Spencer's "Releevo" won the 1986 Verity Bargate Award.
