Holden and Matia are the protagonists of a process of social alienation but only one of them in the end experiences disalienation. The paper explores in depth the adolescent mind and feelings as they reveal in Holden and Matia, two sensitive youngsters marked by an alienated environment one in postwar America, the other in a Civil War Spain.
