Life continues for Veronica and Lucinda in Chicago. Here enters Medusa, a teenager who grew up abroad, across the Atlantic. See how studious Medusa navigates middle school and high school and her struggles as a teenager with classmates and other family. Keep on reading about a changing scene in Chicago as demographics and other parameters shift over the years too due to reverse migration towards the South due to growing pressure from increasing violence and obstacles related to economics. Yet, Chicago continues to vibrate with its engaging characters in schools where Veronica works, for example, in the challenging times of the Covid -19 pandemic, just before the Delta variant hits the landscape full-force.
The book consists of four parts of teaching and learning in Chicago, where Part One covers syllabi of Spanish & Mandarin Chinese classes taught. Part Two includes animated PowerPoints on topics on Asian Studies including published papers in International Education, Ethics in Education and other subjects. Part Three consists of papers on Counseling and Addictions Counseling topics with diverse clients. Finally, there is an addendum with colorful samples of students' work!
This novel started as a response to an online competition Margaret Atwood posted on Wattpad before the publication of her book where she invited writers to elaborate on her secondary characters like Veronica and Con, Stan's brother who never liked his brother's girlfriend, Charmaine. The main plot elements of Stan and Charmaine losing their jobs after the economic crisis and living in their car which led them to join the Positron Project were given by Atwood. My novel took off with Veronica's life set about twenty years later after the events in Atwood's novel. This is why my book maintains the original plot on some level and transforms Veronica into a primary character. Hence the title of my first published book as tribute to Atwood's online competition before the publication of her book.
