    "Der vorliegende, für ein grösseres Publikum berechnete Vortrag, belehrt in fesselnder Weise über die neueren Experimentaluntersuchungen , welche sich mit der Grösse und dem Verlauf der geistigen Arbeitsleistung beschäftigen. Der Verfasser betont vornehmlich den Einfluss der Ermüdung und kommt dabei zu dem Resultat, dass bei der gegenwärtigen Einrichtung des Schulunterrichts die Arbeitszeiten für Schulkinder viel zu lang im Verhältnis zu den Ruhepausen sind. Der Verfasser plädiert für kürzere, aber voll auszunutzende Arbeitszeiten mit im Verlaufe des Tages immer länger werdenden Erholungspausen. Körperliche Anstrengung (wie Turnen) ist übrigens nicht ein Mittel zur Aufhebung der geistigen Ermüdung. Wir möchten das Schriftchen insbesondere allen Lehrern zur Lektüre empfehlen. Auch bei der gegenwärtigen Stundeneinteilung könnte es ein verständiger Lehrer sehr gut so einrichten, dass er die volle Anstrengung der Schüler nur auf kurze Zeit in Anspruch nimmt und den übrigen Teil der Stunden in nützlicher Weise so ausfüllt, dass ein geistiges Ausruhen der Einzelnen dabei stattfinden kann."Der Autor dieses Werkes mit wieder aktuellem Bezug, Emil Kraepelin (1856 bis 1926), war ein deutscher Psychiater auf den bedeutende Entwicklungen in der wissenschaftlichen Psychiatrie zurückgehen. Das vorliegende Buch ist ein unveränderter Nachdruck der längst vergriffenen Originalausgabe von 1899.
