'I am a composer. Part memoir, Becoming a Composer offers an intriguing glimpse into the mind and motivation of a composer and covers aspects of Wallen's sometimes troubled childhood, and her experiences of growing up as a black composer in the UK.

Commissioned by the Dunedin Consort in 2006, Errollyn Wallens Comfort Me with Apples is for soloists and instrumental ensemble and sets words from The Song of Songs. First performed by Susan Hamilton soprano, Matthew Brook bass and the Dunedin Consort conducted by John Butt at the Queens Hall, Edinburgh on 22 September 2006.
