Indem er sich auf die aristotelische Metaphysik und hier vor allem auf die Gotteslehre konzentriert, versucht er einerseits zu zeigen, dass die oft als dunkel und widerspruchlich hingestellten Lehren des Aristoteles sich konsistent rekonstruieren lassen, und dass Aristoteles andererseits als ein Vertreter des metaphysischen Optimismus, als ein "e;antiker Leibniz"e; also, betrachtet werden kann.

Here, for the first time in English, is Franz Brentanös The Teaching of Jesus, a compendium of texts Brentano assembled for publication shortly before his death that constitute a frank, public settling of accounts with the Christian religion. Originally conceived by Brentano as a volume that might help others similarly led to doubt the doctrines of Christianity, the book is remarkably free of bitterness or spitefulness. On the contrary, what makes the book of singular importance, especially now, is its careful attempt at taking stock of the positive and negative influence Christianity has had in history. This text appeals to those researchers and scholars interested in the work of Franz Brentano and his work on the philosophy of religion, in this case, Christianity.

Here, for the first time in English, is Franz Brentano's The Teaching of Jesus, a compendium of texts Brentano assembled for publication shortly before his death that constitute a frank, public settling of accounts with the Christian religion.

Dieser Band prasentiert in kritischer Ausgabe und mit einer langen, kontextualisierenden Einleitung den bislang unveroffentlichten Briefwechsel zwischen Franz Brentano (1838-1917) und Gustav Theodor Fechner (1801-1887). Die Korrespondenz wurde von der kritischen Stellung angeregt, die Brentano in seiner Psychologie vom empirischen Standpunkte (1874) zur Fechner'schen Psychophysik eingenommen hatte, wie diese in den Elementen der Psychophysik von 1860 dargelegt worden war. Der Briefwechsel umfasst insgesamt 11 unveroffentlichte Briefe und erstreckt sich in ihrer ersten Phase von Mai bis Juli 1874. Nach einer dreijahrigen Pause wird sie dann von Oktober 1877 bis Januar 1878 wieder aufgenommen, unmittelbar nach der Publikation von Fechners In Sachen der Psychophysik. Brentanos Stellungnahme gegenuber der Fechner'schen Psychophysik bleibt offen, obwohl er sie einer genauen Prufung unterwirft und ihre Schranken hervorhebt. Aus dem Briefwechsel, in dem Brentano u. a. in der gleichen Zeit, aber unabhangig von Joseph Plateau, anstelle der Fechner'schen logarithmischen eine Potenzfunktion als psychophysisches Gesetz vorschlagt, treten deutlich die unterschiedlichen psychologischen und philosophischen Grundauffassungen dieser beiden groen mitteleuropaischen Gelehrten des ausgehenden 19. Jahrhunderts hervor.

A translation of Franz Brentano's posthumous "Wahrheit und Evidenz". It includes Brentano's influential lecture "On the Concept of Truth", read before the Vienna Philosophical Society and a variety of essays, drawn from the wealth of Brentano's unpublished material.

Der Band 'Versuch über die Erkenntnis' wurde von A. Kastil im Jahre 1925 in der Philosophischen Bibliothek herausgegeben. Seinen Inhalt bildet hauptsächlich Franz Brentanos nachgelassene, umfangreiche Schrift: 'Nieder mit den Vorurteilen!' Sie trägt den Untertitel: 'Ein Mahnwort an die Gegenwart, im Geiste von Bacon und Descartes von allem blinden Apriori sich loszusagen'. Die aus dem Jahre 1903 stammende Abhandlung: 'Nieder mit den Vorurteilen!' beschäftigt sich im I. und II. Teil vorwiegend mit Kants synthetischen Urteilen a priori, die mit aller Entschiedenheit abgelehnt werden, weil wir ¿ nach Brentanos Auffassung ¿ in ihnen keine Erkenntnisse, sondern nur blinde Vorurteile gegeben haben.
