Die Neuauflage des Dehio Thüringen enthält neben notwendigen Korrekturen einzelner Fehler vor allem umfängliche Aktualisierungen. Es wurden Ergänzungen aufgrund von neuen Forschungen und abgeschlossenen Sanierungen vorgenommen und die neue Schwerpunkte sowohl bei den Objekttexten als auch, in einem gewissen Umfang, bei der Objektauswahl gesetzt. Insbesondere sind die baulichen Zeugnisse des 20. Jahrhunderts in angemessener Weise und damit deutlich stärker gewichtet. Die Bearbeitung erfolgte in der bewährten Partnerschaft zwischen der Dehio-Vereinigung und dem zuständigen Landesamt für Denkmalpflege in Thüringen, erweitert um die Mitarbeit der Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
