Despite a frustrated ecclesiastical career, Giraldus Cambrensis (Gerald of Wales, c.1146-1220/3) composed many literary works, including in volume 2 his handbook on sacraments and morals. Published in 1862 in the Rolls Series, this Latin text, with an editorial preface in English, gives a vivid picture of the medieval ecclesiastical world.
