"Learning How Children Worship" details what motivates children to worship and how to teach children of all ages the principles of worship. This leadership text is written to help teachers, parents, and other adults find answers to their specific problems in guiding children to worship. The author considers what worship is and lists its various aspects; what may motivate or help children to want to worship; the materials of worship; some principles of worship and its language; and worship at home. She defines and illustrates spontaneous worship and suggests how a leader may plan worship for children of different ages. The various times and places where worship may occur are described. The worshipping community is considered and resources are listed. A helpful bibliography is also included. This book will prove a helpful resource for all those concerned with learning how children worship. Grace W. McGavran has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Butler University and a Master of Arts degree from Boston University. Most of her work focuses on children, with an additional focus on religion. James A. Scott was an art major at Woodburry College and has illustrated a number of religious education books and materials for children.
This course of study for juniors (in vacation school juniors are usually those who have finished fourth, fifth and sixth grades) is in the area of "Our Bible Heritage." It is planned to help boys and girls use the Bible to learn about seven major Biblical characters and how God chose them to fulfill certain purposes in His plan for mankind. Enough of the setting of the life and times of each character is given to help boys and girls see the men as real persons with everyday experiences and problems. No attempt is made to give the full sweep of history of Old Testament times. The Teacher's Book version of "Men Who Dared in Bible Times" provides lessons and lesson plans, activity packets and other resources to aid in the study sessions. It does not include the text of the book intended for juniors' use.
