This special edition includes two Jack London's novels in their original 1903 and 1906 unabridged version : I - THE CALL OF THE WILDThe Call of the Wild is a tale about unbreakable spirit and the struggle for existence. The central character is a domesticated sturdy cross breed canine named Buck, born to luxury and raised in a sheltered Californian home. Stolen from his home and sold into service as sled dog in Alaska, he reverts to a wild state. Buck is forced to fight in order to dominate other dogs in a harsh climate. Passed from master to master, Buck embarks on an extraordinary journey.II - WHITE FANGWhite Fang takes place in the desolate, frozen wilds of northwest Canada. White Fang, a part dog, part wolf cub finds himself the sole survivor of a litter of five. In his lonely world, he soon learned to follow the harsh law of the North - kill or be killed - and become a ferocious and magnificent creature. But nothing in his young life prepared him for the cruelty of the bully Beauty Smith, who buys White Fang from his Indian master and turns him into a vicious killer - a pit dog forced to fight for money. Much of the novel is written from the viewpoint White Fang, through whose experiences the author makes a parallel between the wilderness life among animals and the violent world of humans.

A fierce and yet tender tale of loyalty between man and beast, told from the point of view of a dog. The Call of the Wild is the story of a dog in the frozen Yukon told from his point of view. But this brilliantly told tale of a canine hero is in fact a graphic picture of the great gold rush to the Klondike in 1897. Brutal and fierce on one hand, it is also a story of tenderness and loyalty between man and beast, and remains one of the best- selling books in American literary history.
The People of the Abyss is a book by Jack London (Call of the Wild, White Fang) about life in the East End of London in 1902. He wrote this first-hand account after living in the East End (including the Whitechapel District) for several weeks, sometimes staying in workhouses or sleeping on the streets. In his attempt to understand the working-class of this deprived area of London the author stayed as a lodger with a poor family. The conditions he experienced and wrote about were the same as those endured by an estimated 500,000 of the contemporary London poor.
Buck, a powerful St Bernard dog is stolen from his comfortable Californian life in Santa Clara Vally and sold to a pair of French Canadians, who think Buck is one in a thousand. They take him to Alaska and train him as a sled dog where he quickly learns how to survive the cold winter nights and the pack society by observing his teammates. The Call of the Wild is Jack London's most popular novel. We follow Buck’s journey through the harsh landscapes as a sledge dog, passing from one master to another, and get introduced to deeper themes such as survival of the fittest, civilization versus nature, and fate versus free will.
American author, journalist, and social activist Jack London is best known for his stories set during the Klondike gold rush. During the late 19th century London traveled to the Klondike region of the Yukon in northwestern Canada to strike it rich. While he didn't find a great fortune in gold he came away with the experiences that would inspire some of his greatest writing. Set in the harsh wilderness of the Yukon territory, "The Call of the Wild" is a story embodied with a realism indicative of London's prospecting experience. The tale follows the struggle of Buck, the domesticated pet of Judge Miller and his family, who is snatched from a pampered lifestyle in California's Santa Clara Valley. When Buck is stolen by the gardener's assistant, Manuel, who sells him to finance his gambling addiction, he faces an arduous journey to the Yukon territory where he must adapt to the brutal reality of life as a sled dog. One of the finest examples of London's literary talent, "The Call of the Wild" exhibits why he would become one of the most popular writers of his day. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.
