Persuasion is the last novel completed by Jane Austen. It was published along with Northanger Abbey at the end of 1817, six months after her death. The novel was published on December 20, 1817, although the title page is dated 1818.[1]The story concerns Anne Elliot, a young Englishwoman of twenty-seven years, whose family moves to lower their expenses and reduce their debt by renting their home to an Admiral and his wife. The wife's brother, Navy Captain Frederick Wentworth, was engaged to Anne in 1806, but the engagement was broken when Anne was ""persuaded"" by her friends and family to end their relationship. Anne and Captain Wentworth, both single and unattached, meet again after a seven-year separation, setting the scene for many humorous encounters as well as a second, well-considered chance at love and marriage for Anne in her second ""bloom"".

"Northanger Abbey" by Jane Austen, one of the most celebrated authors in English literature and the mastermind behind classics such as "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense and Sensibility", is a perfect blend of satire, romance, and insightful social commentary. With "Northanger Abbey", Austen crafts an ingenious critique of Gothic fiction while showcasing her well-loved narrative flair. In this captivating novel, readers meet Catherine Morland, an imaginative and naive young woman whose world is largely shaped by the Gothic novels she devours. As Catherine gets an opportunity to visit the imposing and mysterious Northanger Abbey, her overactive imagination, fuelled by her reading habits, causes a series of misunderstandings and misinterpretations that lead to humorous yet enlightening incidents.Austen takes advantage of Catherine's naivety and whimsical fantasies to parody the popular Gothic novels of her time, offering readers a delightful satire that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. She brilliantly demonstrates how literature, especially the sensational and dramatic, can sway impressionable minds and skew their perception of reality. However, "Northanger Abbey" is not just a parody of Gothic fiction; it's also an astute exploration of the gender and class dynamics that were prevalent in 18th-century England. Through her nuanced depiction of Catherine's experiences and interactions, Austen provides sharp insights into the societal norms, expectations, and prejudices of her time."Northanger Abbey" remains a testament to Austen's ability to create timeless narratives that resonate even in the modern world. Whether you are a Jane Austen aficionado or someone venturing into her world for the first time, this novel's blend of humor, romance, and satire is bound to provide an engaging and enlightening reading experience. Keywords: Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey, Gothic Fiction, Satire, Romance, Social Commentary, Societal Norms, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility.

Continuing the wildly successful Puffin in Bloom line of classics--illustrated by Anna Bond, the artist behind the renowned lifestyle brand Rifle Paper Co.Marianne Dashwood wears her heart on her sleeve, and when she falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby, she ignores her sister Elinor's warning that her impulsive behavior leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor, always sensitive to social convention, is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her. Through their parallel experience of love-- and its threatened loss--the sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love.
Is love a matter of the head or the heart? Money and marriage are the two subjects of this first Jane Austen novel. For Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, it is a time of great change: their father has just died and the heir to the estate where they live, the son of their father's first marriage, leaves them with little to support themselves. For good reason, Elinor helps her mother find a new home they can afford on the other side of England, in Devon. It's a change of scenery, but also an opportunity to make new connections.Marianne, whose romanticism and vivacity charm the secretive Colonel Brandon, soon falls deeply in love with the impetuous young John Willoughby, whom she meets in very romantic circumstances. Elinor, whose dispositions are more cautious and measured, carefully conceals the depth of her feelings for Edward Ferrars, her unpleasant sister-in-law's older brother, whom she met at Norland, and who lives in London with his mother. Both of them then face disappointments and betrayals. Their shared qualities, however - discernment, steadfastness and integrity in the face of the evil intentions of others - their deep affection for each other and Elinor's strength of character will enable them to face, albeit with a little more difficulty for Marianne, the trials that lie ahead. In a vain society where all relationships seem to revolve around money, rents and dowries, the Dashwood sisters offer a freshness and spontaneity that contrasts with the dryness and materialism of most of their contemporaries.A large print edition for an easier reading

Sense and Sensibility, written by the beloved English author Jane Austen, is a timeless tale of two very different sisters navigating the ups and downs of love and society in 19th century England. Elinor Dashwood is practical, reserved, and guided by her sense, while her younger sister Marianne is impulsive, emotional, and ruled by her sensibility. When their father unexpectedly dies, the sisters are left to navigate the challenges of life without the security of their family home. As they move to a new town and interact with a cast of intriguing characters, both sisters must grapple with their own desires and the expectations of society. Austen's masterful writing captures the complexities of love, loss, and societal norms, making Sense and Sensibility a timeless classic that continues to resonate with readers today.
