Andre is back, sharing his emotional coming-of-age story. He has finally arrived in his very own promised land-the campus of the Hanson Memorial Tigers-where older brother Duncan once roamed. This, while he must also navigate his newfound stardom with new friends at a new school. And this, as his concern for his mom is growing as her own mother is dying. His grandfather Paw Joe returns to Andre's life when the young boy finally starts visiting his sick grandmother again. The old man has a wealth of wisdom, not to mention a secret former amateur boxing career he is thinking about passing on to Andre. Unfortunate run-ins around town with some of Andre's St. Jude friends convince him that trouble is looming, not for himself, but for his unsuspecting grandson.

In this sacred personal pilgrimage, the author takes a walk with the Mother of Jesus to the foot of the cross. There, Jesus asks him to look at his life, particularly at his relationships with his mother and women in general. Ultimately, the author learns that it is through waiting, through standing firm in courage and truth, that he will win the ultimate prize he seeks, the deepest desires of his heart. Jesus continues to ask him, "Do you love ME?", a question to which the author must now live the answer.
