Joe Wheaton has been training since childhood to retrieve an artifact that his father hid away twenty years ago. Arthur Wheaton tried to wield the artifact, a Dwarven Thrower, but the hammer rejected him. He put it in a vault on an island in the Pirate Isles where it has been for the last twenty years while Arthur Wheaton raised a family and a farm. Once day they were attacked by a band of Orks. Joe and his friends, Carlin, a wizard, and Bobo, a halfling rogue, set out to get the hammer. They are relentlessly pursued by a dwarf also intent on retrieving the hammer. After many encounters, our heroes finally get to the hammer and take its test.
