  • - Mary in the Personal, Historical, Scriptural, and Spiritual Realms
    av John C Wilhelmsson
    188,-

Mary is the most misunderstood figure in the history and current practice of Christianity. This book clarifies her nature and role by looking at four perspectives. "The Personal" tells of Our Lady of Guadalupe's intercession in the short story "Twin Fates." "The Historical" looks at the origins of the Rosary and Mary's influence down through the Christian age. "The Scriptural" examines Cardinal Newman's writings on Mary's role purely in terms of the Bible. And "The Spiritual" details Mary's role as Coredemptrix and the perennial truths of the spiritual life this role points to for us all. By gathering together all of these perspectives in one book "Tales of the Theotokos" takes a fresh new look at Mary the Mother of Jesus Christ. With original photos and published in large print (check out our website at www.c2op.com).

This thesis addresses the topic of the philosophical contributions of Edith Stein to the area of philosophy known as phenomenology. It examines Stein's life up until the acceptance of her doctoral dissertation On The Problem of Empathy in1916. A particular attention will be given to the years 1913 to 1915 when her dissertation was being conceived and written. The central question being: Did Edith Stein make any important independent contributions to the philosophy of phenomenology? Because Edith Stein was canonized a Saint by the Catholic Church in 1998 a great deal of research material has recently been made available on her life. Using these and other sources as evidence, this thesis will make the argument that Edith Stein did in fact make heretofore uncredited and important contributions to the area of philosophy known as phenomenology. This academic thesis from San Jose State University features breakthrough research on Edith Stein and won the "Outstanding Thesis from the College of Arts and Humanities" award in 2007 and inspired the best selling large print book and ebook "The Transposition of Edith Stein" in 2012.

In 2013 the philosophy department at San Jose State University stood almost alone against its own administration, a group of opportunist politicians, and a well funded high-tech start-up who were all attempting to destroy university education as we know it by pushing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). In the aftermath of this modern day academic stand at Thermopylae a member of the department conducted his own reflections on the art of teaching while at the same time documenting the MOOC controversy. Here is a collection of essays on teaching born out of a real educational crisis, along with an inside perspective on the ongoing fight against MOOCs (large print).
