John Colquhoun was an expert, he was a sporting naturalist, which, basically meant that if something interested him enough he shot it and would have it stuffed. Colquhoun tells of his experiences fishing salmon, trout and sea loch fishing and of his days out shooting partridge, grouse and black-game over pointers, as well as hares, seals, ducks, kites, hawks, pigeons, crossbills, foxes, wild cats, sea birds and wild goats.
