Le Carré skrev boka parallelt med sine to siste romaner, Spionenes arv (2017) og En fri agent (2020).David Cornwell, kjent som John le Carré, ble født i 1931 og døde i desember 2020. Hans romaner har solgt til sammen over 60 millioner eksemplarer. Det var forfatterens ønske at barna hans skulle forvalte hans litterære arv og upubliserte tekster. Silverview er den eneste komplette romanen som finnes blant hans etterlatte papirer.I sentrum av handlingen i den nye romanen er en bokhandel på et britisk feriested.
