Obasi Obikwelu is betrayed by the gang he was in because Ochuko set it up with their boss Oladayo. There is also a Jamaican gang led by Flint somewhere else. Mustafa Cartwright was their boss. After Mustafa was killed by Oladayo's gang the Jamaicans moved to a Jamaican area. To gain his vengeance, Obasi pretends to be a Jamaican named Marlon Copeland and joins Flint's crew to convince them to avenge Mustafa's death by killing Obasi's former gang.

They are especially treated terribly by the daughter Halona, and then something happens that nobody expects. Later there are two boys, one's a psychopath who wants to kill anybody and anything, and the other wants to see a result of metamorphosis. Then there's a guy dealing with his abusive slave master father. This book is a dark family drama with abuse, mental illness, cannibalism, and indigenous North American Stickball.
