The Czech Republic and Slovakia emerged independent in 1993. Having once been a single country, with a single national railway operator, the change was significant, although both countries, and their railways, still have a lot in common. Across three decades, with over 140 photos, this book explores the history and railways of both countries.

Germany was reunified in October 1990. For the rail system, the complex task of unifying two networks with different systems had just begun. New lines and stations were built to unite the network and trains were introduced to transform services. This book, illustrated with over 130 photos, traces the development of the unified German rail network.
