Originally published in 1932, this book presents a concise study of the Indian caste system. The text was created 'in the hope of adding to the ordinary man's knowledge of this peculiar form of social organization and of enabling him to form a judgment of its merits and defects'.

The Provincial Geography of India series was created during the early part of the twentieth century to provide the general reader with introductory texts on the characteristic features of the various Indian provinces. This 1917 volume concentrates on the area comprising the districts of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, Sikkim.
