First published in 1929 as a reprint of a 1920 original, this book examines the history of Judaism and specifically how Jewish history and doctrine prophesied and prepared the way for the coming of Jesus, 'the King of the Jews'. Browne uses a variety of formats to review Jewish history.

Originally published in 1913, this book presents the content of the Hulsean Prize Essay for 1912. The text provides a concise discussion of the gospels of Jesus and their perception in the light of contemporary critical developments, with particular reference to the works of Adolf Julicher.
