The third in our comprehensive studies of all known cultivars of indoor and ornamental houseplants or interior plants. This edition covers the cultivars of the genera Alsobia, Beaucarnia, Cereus, Echeveria, Euphorbia, Ficus, Fittonia, Hoya, Justicia, Kalanchoe, Radermachera, Rohdea, Sanchezia, Scindapsus, Selaginella, and Strelitzia. Many rare clones are imaged, described, and given new cultivar names for the first time, establishing these names and whenever possible histories and origins. The volume contains much original research from our cultivar.org plant collections, numerous trips to visit other collections and nurseries, catalogs, reference books, academic articles, botanical databases, and consultation with more than 30 genera experts in the field. When we don't have a clear answer we share all the evidence for the reader to decide. As with previous volumes, this work is designed to be a benchmark, stabilizing and establish nomenclatrue, clarifying decriptions in great detail, and service a discussion point around while future research may develop.
This sixth volume in the series contains genera beginning with the letter S. There are 538 different of Salvia described along with 459 Sedum cultivars. This does not count botanical taxa. There are also 18 Santolina, 69 Sarracenia, 400+ Sempervivum, 31 Sisyrinchium, 37 Stokesia, 10 Sanguinaria, 18 Schizacharium, 24 Selaginella, 59 Solidago and hybrids, and 8 Syneilesis. Besides our abnormally large, digital images, cultivars are described with a much detail as possible including origins and histories.
Volume Two Part B contains all genera starting with the letter C, from Cacalia to Cyrtomium. This is a major revision adding some bulbous or geophyte genera of these genera and we now cover in great detail 13 Caltha, 19 Camassia, 148 Carex, 27 Colchicum, 30 Convallaria, 191 Coreopsis, 69 Cortaderia, 104 Cyclamen, and 15 Crytomium cultivars - far more than any other perennial manual or guide to date. As in all the volumes, the author presented cultivar-specific descriptions, their origins when known, useful links for rare cultivars, and nomenclature and identification tips.
Volume IIB covers all genera of hardy herbaceous perennials from E to F or Echeandia to Fritillaria. Highlights include a large number of described, different cultivars: 176 Echinacea, 229 Epimedium, 81 Erigeron, 53 Eupatorium, 101 hardy Euphorbia, 96 Farfugiium, 49 ornamental Festuca, and 32 Filipendulina. The series includes detailed, cultivar-specific descriptions, whenever possible the cultivar origns, identification tips, and internet links for the more and rare and new offerings. There is also considerable original research into literature, cultivar histories, breeding and genetics, nomenclature, and reviews of existing literature.
