After the brutal fiasco at the Lernan Academy, John Livingston Harvard and his good friend, Frank Carlotta, have returned to a peaceful and normal routine. The Coeptus Guild has been effectively dismantled and the few remaining members are scurrying like rats for any hole they can find in which to hide. All is well, with the exception of one crucial item, Billy Ray Jenkins and the brilliant assassin's need for revenge. With a meticulously laid out plan, he is certain nothing could possibly go wrong. But as all military planners know, everything changes after the first shot is fired. All bets are off as the deadly chess game begins.
The saga of John Livingston Harvard continues as he recovers from the wounds inflicted upon him by the Coeptus Guild thugs. Physically, he's back to normal, better than normal actually, pushing his physical training to the limits as he struggles with his failure to save Emily and come to grips with the moral conundrum left him by Gregory Harris. Is there really no difference between two men who kill, regardless of their reasons? Are they really cut from the same cloth? He finds that the only way he can sleep is to train until he is exhausted and when he's not pushing himself, he is at the firing range, always thinking of the next time. Slowly, day by day, John, much to the dismay of Sue, the woman who is living with him as he recovers, is transforming himself into a lethal killing machine. Whether he's ready or not doesn't really matter as his best friend, Chief Nick Giovanni, approaches him with his own problem. Two bodies have been discovered and though they were far apart, Nick feels that they may be related... and they may involve the Guild. Unfortunately both men have first hand knowledge of how the deadly group has a history of placing their own members into police departments and government. It's a matter of trust and if the Guild is involved, it almost certainly will involve John and Nick. Events move quickly, with their worst fears coming to fruition. John suddenly finds that he has little time to put the Twisted Pieces of the puzzle together as he realizes that all that are dear to him are in mortal peril.
John Livingston Harvard finds himself constantly juggling the harsh reality of his job as an ex-cop and private eye with his responsibilities as a divorced dad trying to raise his six year old daughter with the love and tenderness that she needs. That balance is severely tested when a woman he has been hired to observe is kidnapped before his very eyes. While investigating the abduction, Livingston learns that the woman has developed the ultimate hacking program, capable of bringing down not only people and corporations, but entire nations as well. She did this not for greed, but in an ongoing effort to end hacking forever and now her good intentions are being twisted for the benefit of an evil group. Time is of the essence as he desperately fights to bring her back before her program is employed and her usefulness - and her life - are no longer necessary. As the case unfolds, Livingston finds himself mired in a nightmarish world of corporate espionage and murder that will test not only his skills as a detective, but his very ability to survive as well.
John Livingston Harvard returns and finds himself working for the government, but this time as an undercover agent for the F.B.I. He and his partner have been tasked with uncovering the latest plot by the Coeptus Guild. Children are quietly disappearing throughout the country. Not just any children, but only those of genius IQ's from troubled or poor homes. The task force set up to deal with the Guild has uncovered information gleaned from the home of a dirty judge that the Guild is responsible and Benevolence has nothing to do with it. The project is merely fuel for the Coeptus Guild's burning desire for power. John and fellow agent Frank Carlotta travel to a small and isolated town in the mountains of Oregon. Who in this tiny hamlet can be trusted? Like all small towns, they are suspicious of strangers but are they typical small town reservations or are there deadly Guild members hidden amongst them? It's going to take time but they need to discover what it is that the Guild is up to. Who is friend and who is foe? With typical ruthless efficiency, the Guild becomes aware of their efforts and intend to clean up the entire project. The missing children are found at a rural compound but who are the real victims? Is it just the children or are there those on the staff and some the community who have been duped as well? Killing them all and letting God sort them out is not an option.
