Christ alone has the ability to reveal Himself. When I sense His approach, I drop my defenses; or rather they fall off of their own accord, because He alone is the voice of my truth and faith, speaking within me. Even when He does not, He reveals Himself in innumerable ways and with ineffable mystery, for Christ's person is an infinite power that reveals itself to us without any effort on our part. Rather, our efforts are the major impediment to Christ's revelation. Our greatest need is to experience His coming to us, receive Him with our entire being, and then allow Him to speak and act within us.
Part history, part theology, part devotional, The Story of Jesus explores the complete life and teachings of Our Lord from before His conception in the womb of Mary until His Ascension. Revered twentieth-century Egyptian elder and scholar Matthew the Poor wrote many volumes on the subject of Christ's significance, life, and teaching, which translator James Helmy has distilled into one highly readable book that will make an essential addition to every Christian's library.
"The lesson of love can never be taught simply by words . . . Rather, it is taught by truly giving yourself and communicating the love and longing for Christ to those you serve. . . . How awesome and dignified is Christian service! And how good is the trustworthy and loyal servant who can say along with Christ, 'Learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart' (Matt. 11:29)." (from the Introduction) This book is essential and inspiring reading for all who would devote their lives to the service of Christ and His Church. ¿Originally published in Arabic as El-khedma by the Monastery of St. Macarius the Great, Wadi el-Natrun (Egypt), 1980.
