Maurice Journeau composed the 1st two movements of his Sonatine (Sonatina) Op.4 in 1922, at a time when he was still a student at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. The Deuxieme Sonatine (2nd Sonatina) Op.10 was written in Biarritz on April 1925. The work, full of a brotherly tenderness, was dedicated by the composer to his younger sister.
