  • - Book 4 of the Pacific Alternate Series
    av Max Lamirande
    222

The year is 1942. The war rages all across the Pacific theater. Battles have been fought from the Hawaiian Islands to the city of Kunming in China, in Australia, and in New Guinea. Cities have been destroyed, raided, and many areas lie in ruins. Large naval battles have been fought, and dozens upon dozens of ships have been sunk to the bottom. Imperial Japan reigns supreme everywhere. The Allies are almost out of ships. But America has not yet given up on ultimate victory. Its factories are producing ships at a never before seen speed. Large fleets will soon roam the seas. And in the meantime, the outmatched Allied forces resist and fight back everywhere-Australia, New Guinea, the Solomons Islands, the U.S. West Coast even. And Imperial Japan tries its best to destroy them. As November 1942 opens, the fight is brought to the remote islands of Guadalcanal and Tahiti. The U.S. Navy sends its beleaguered (and outnumbered) ships southward while Yamamoto is anchored with most of its naval strength in Oahu. More ships soon arrive from Japan as the Grand Admiral is bound to reinforce Admiral Inoue's 2nd Fleet in the face of the enemy surge. The Empire cannot afford to lose the Solomon Islands and the South Seas. As both fleets converge, another large naval battle looms. And it won't take long for the Japanese Grand Admiral to realize that the U.S. West Coast is open to attack, as most of its ships are gone to fight elsewhere. In the middle of it all, war heroes fight the battles that will decide victory. A brave Japanese destroyer captain, soldiers on the ground in Guadalcanal and China, a reckless American Submarine captain, and both a Japanese and a U.S. aces fight other planes in the sky above for mastery of the air. This is the story of the Second World War in the Pacific

  • - Book 5 of the Pacific Alternate Series
    av Max Lamirande
    222

The year is 1943. The war in the Pacific enters its 11th month, and there is no sign of it slowing down. The Japanese Empire has conquered most of the theater, except for Australia and a few outlying islands in the Solomons that the Allies have been able to liberate. General MacArthur and Admiral Nimitz are slowly regaining the initiative in the conflict, having met with success in the Battle of Guadalcanal and New Georgia. The U.S. Pacific Fleet has moved south and surprised Isoroku Yamamoto, while the Nipponese Navy commander has most of its fleet in Hawaii. The Imperial Navy will not stay idle, and a new admiral is named to take over for the south seas theater replacing defeated Admiral Inoue. Admiral Jisaburo Ozawa has just arrived in New Britain with a powerful fleet that includes several battleships and the mighty main fleet carrier Kaga. Another great naval battle looms for the control of the Solomon Islands, for Japan cannot permit the Allies to gain more ground and threaten its main base at Rabaul. In Northwestern Australia, a Japanese Army surge has just reconquered Derby and the Imperial Guards commander, General Nishimura, looks to consolidate its conquest with an advance on Broome and further down the Aussie coast. In China, the Nationalists have finally been able to repulse the Japs with a great victory near their capital of Chongqing. The Imperial forces are in full retreat toward French Indochina and its foothold on the Burma Road. The Tacoma shipyard is still a smoking ruin after the Japanese raid, and the Americans are preparing their revenge and their next move. A great bombing raid is being planned on Pearl Harbor to interdict the critical harbor for Yamamoto. And then some more. Battles in the Indian Ocean, as Admiral Kondo seeks to destroy the British holed up in Addu Atoll, the French looking to liberate their Polynesian islands, and MacArthur about to launch his offensive in Northern New Guinea. The Pacific is burning. This is the story of the Second World War.

The year is 1943. Japan is cornered. The Empire is attacked on all sides. Pearl Harbor is being bombed to oblivion, while in Southern China its armies reel back in retreat. The Solomons are being slowly being liberated by the Allies, and Tahiti has been reconquered by the French. Strategically, the Empire is not faring well. The American submarine warfare campaign is starting to choke Japan's resources and the Imperial Fleet is feeling the pinch of the lack of oil and resources. America produces ships by the dozens every month while the Japanese shipyard struggles to keep a snail's pace of a few ships every other month. The outlook is not good, and the imperial forces do not seem to have an answer to mounting Allied power. And Japanese Grand Admiral Yamamoto has decided that enough was enough. Having to evacuate Pearl Harbor, he orders all able Japanese ships to the south seas. The goal is to confront and destroy the American fleet to end the Allied reconquest campaign once and for all. While the Allies are slowly regaining the initiative in the conflict under the leadership of MacArthur and Nimitz, a storm of steel and might is brewing with the Japanese Imperial Navy coming down on them. Fully aware of the Japanese moves because they can read their naval code, the two men will plan accordingly. An evacuation or a final battle is in the cards for the Allies. They will need to choose. Yamamoto prepares his next move in the defense of the Hawaiian Islands with the construction of a new naval base 1500 kilometers west of Oahu on Johnson Atoll, while the U.S. Navy is ready to move on Pearl from San Diego. In China, the Nationalists continue their offensive while the Japanese follow up with their retreat and hope to stop the Chinese. In the Indian Ocean, Admirals Somerville and Kondo are on a collision course for another battle. Americans on the west coast think themselves safe from Japanese raids. They are about to be reminded that Japan still has some bite. The war is far from over. This is the story of the Second World War.
