Capturing the flavour of Renaissance-style bound books, Paperblanks Old Leather Flint journal pays homage to the craft of delicate gold tooling. For this cover design, we have incorporated a textured white design reminiscent of chalk, flint or limestone, adding an edginess to the look of finely wrought leather.
More sumptuous than even the finest arrangement, our Van Huysum journal cover is based on a painting by Jan van Huysum (1682-1749). Van Huysum is perhaps the greatest master of that most revered subject in the Dutch artistic canon: the flower. A seduction of the eye and a jolt of passion for the soul, this still life is anything but static.
Let a swirl of turquoise inspire you to write your chronicles. This cover is based on the binding for a book titled Chroniques, published by Salel Binder in Paris in 1514. The exuberance of the design reflects the splendour of the Renaissance approach to decoration. In this green-blue journal cover you may see the intricacies of your own stories.
Our Blue Velvet journal design is inspired by a piece of a 15th-century velvet dalmatic. It is decorated in brocaded gilt metal thread with a seven-lobed shield, an artichoke-like botanical shape and tiny floral patterns. Creating a velvet design such as this would have been a painstaking procedure, making this a luxury fabric during the Renaissance.
Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, physicist, futurist and engineer. This journal features a sketch of his turbine research, reproducing a document held in the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade. Today, Tesla's legacy endures mostly notably in Tesla, Inc., which specializes in electric vehicles, solar panels and lithium-ion batteries.
The design reproduced on this Paperblanks Flexis Poetry in Bloom soft cover notebook, originally crafted by Riviere and Son, centres around a sensitive plant surrounded by other richly hued flowers, foliage and butterflies. The binding was used for The Sensitive Plant and Early Poems by Percy Bysshe Shelley and is a celebration of the creative spirit.
Guiseppe Verdi's (1813-1901) instincts for finding the right material led him to create works that virtually define the general public's understanding of opera, such as Aida and Rigoletto. Featured on our Verdi, Carteggio journal cover is an excerpt from his correspondence. May his legacy inspire your own hand.
In Search of Lost Time, Marcel Proust's seven-volume masterpiece, is an examination of French society that almost completely lacks any sense of plot. Needless to say, it caused a sensation when the first volume was published in 1913. This Paperblanks journal cover shows a page from his lined notebook with his copious notes in the margins.
