Musings On Issues In The News (Volume 2) is a collection of published essays on several media outlets over a period of time on critical issues that pertain to the Nigerian state.Despite the vagaries and fluidities inherent in Nigerian politics, the issues remain the same. The failure of the politicians to address the issues which keep changing from one form to another, is what has rendered the country impotent, unable to live up to her potentials and fulfil her manifest destiny. Some of these issues include corruption, insecurity, terrorism, restructuring, minimum wage, military, elections, fiscal federalism, among many others. This is not another book that rehashes the numerous problems that plague the Nigerian state. It is a book of panaceas.
This book was originally written as a research project carried out by the author and submitted to the Faculty of Humanities, University of Port Harcourt, River State, Nigeria, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Linguistics and Communication Studies.
President Muhammadu Buhari is arguably number one on the list of Nigerian Heads of State who have suffered the most from bad press. His achievements are often credited to his predecessors while his mistakes are celebrated and shouted on the rooftops. Many hate him and wish him evil, even when they have benefitted from his projects and policies. Some do not even know why they hate him. They just join the bandwagon because it is "cool" to hate Buhari.Buhari's only sin which isn't known to the most of the ignorant and gullible masses, is that he has refused to "share" money unlike his predecessors. Before he assumed power, it was the norm for the president to "lobby" the press, religious leaders, and other critical stakeholders in Nigeria. As an avowed anti-corruption crusader, Buhari chose integrity and he has paid dearly for it.Beyond the miasma of misinformation peddled by the media in cahoots with enemies of the Nigerian state, this book aims to reveal some of the successes and achievements of the Buhari administration. This list of President Buhari's achievements is by no means exhaustive. By conservative estimates, there are over a thousand projects across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria that are currently undertaken by this administration. I have chosen to focus on a select few that have been completed and commissioned.
IBB is about the man who famously tagged himself as an evil genius. It is about his rise to power, mercurial nature and his legacies.
