The book "" The Extant Odes of Pindar , has been considered important throughout the human history, and so that this work is never forgotten we have made efforts in its preservation by republishing this book in a modern format for present and future generations. This whole book has been reformatted, retyped and designed. These books are not made of scanned copies and hence the text is clear and readable.
This text contains, in two volumes, a new edition and translation of the four books of victory odes, along with surviving fragments of Pindar's other poems. This is Volume One.
Published in 1811, this is the first volume of a classic edition of the surviving works of Pindar (c.522-c.443 BCE). German classicist August Boeckh (1785-1867) provides the Greek texts of the Epinician Odes, plus a groundbreaking treatise (in Latin) on Pindarian metrics, a preface and scholarly notes.
These translations revive the confident excitement of their original performances.
