V. Madhusoodanan Nair, born on February 25, 1949 at Aruviyodu, asmall riverside village near Neyyattinkara, in Thiruvananthapuram, is anaccomplished, highly respected Indian (Malayalam) poet and critic of Malayalamliterature, who is credited with contributions in popularizing poetry throughrecitation. He is best known for Naaraanathu Bhranthan, the poem with the mosteditions in Malayalam literature as well as his music albums featuring recitations ofhis own poems and poems of other major poets. Kerala Sahitya Akademi honouredhim with the annual award for poetry in 1992. He is also recipient of many otherhonours including Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, Balamani Amma Award andValmiki Puraskaram etc. He received the Central Sahithya Academy Award forLiterature -2019 (for Poetry) based on his work 'The Home Where Father Was Born' This is the seventh in the series of translations of 'Selected Poems' of famousMalayalam Poets that Mr. PKN Panicker presents to the enlightened readers who may not knowMalayalam but interested to read, understand and appreciate Malayalam poetry. Poetscovered in the earlier volumes are A. Ayyappan, Vailopilli Sreedhara Menon, P.Kunhiraman Nair, Akkitham, Vishnu Narayanan Namboosdiri and Sugatha kumara.It is Mr. Panicker's sincere belief that transporting the works of our authors into other languagesand in particular to English is the only way to take them to the parlors of worldpoetry that made Mr.Panicker to undertake this venture. Among the widely used languagesMalayalam has the 29 th position and is one among the more vibrant languages rich inthought and expression.
