The story takes place on a remote island in the Atlantic, owned by the eccentric aristocrat Gilbert Newman, Duke of Kirkwell. On this island is located the magnificent library of the Newman family, where the secret of Atlantis lies hidden in a maze of books and hard-to-reach hiding places. The reader is rewarded with a daring proposition: the chance to read the unwritten part of Plato's dialogue Critias. The protagonist ends up discovering far more than he intended: nothing less than the perennial truths of human existence.
